strange cause thats what i heard too, however i went to get my coolants flushed out and water wetter / water put in and the mechanic in question told me it didnt make a difference and just threw in regular tap water
It's recommended to use deionized water because the minerals have been removed. It's to protect the radiator from mineral deposit build up (like in the CLR commercials). If your house has soft water (not hard water...) then it's fine to use tap water.. but its just for safety that people typically use deionized water as it's not easy to tell if your water is mineral rich.
