Water in gas tank! :(

Hey guys, I got water into my gas tank because of rain yesterday. The gas cap wasnt closed properly so im assuming thats what happened.
It started up and rode fine for about a KM. Then it wouldnt really respond if I twist the throttle. First gear was okay, but onwards it would jerk as I twist the throttle. However the bike stays running.

I drained the gas tank as much as i could (So not all the way). Filled it up again but same thinghappening.

I didnt really ride it after I filled it because its such a pain trying to when it doesnt respond. Could that be the OLD gas in the pipes or float that is still causing the problem?

So whats the fastest way getting this running again? Should draining the float (i think thats what it is, the screws under the carbs) help?

thanks!!

Get some alcohol into the tank (gas line anti-freeze will work) and clean the plugs.

Did you try using the Carb drain screw to drain everything from the gas line? You should have not fill up your tank again, empty it totally and drain the bike then use fresh gas

Don't waste your money on gas line anti-freeze or alcohol. Regular gasoline has up to 100 ml alcohol per litre.
Try draining fuel from the carbs into a clear container. If you have water in the fuel you'll be able to see what look like bubbles at the bottom.

If you do have water, do as you have done; drain the tank, fill with fresh regular gasoline, drain the carbs until the samples are clear.

I thought you have already drained the tank. If you didn't get the water out the first time, what is reapeating the process going to do?
Unless you remove tank and turn it upside down you will not get all the water out... even then you won't get ALL the water out.

Okay I drained the carbs and now it wont start =/....

The first time i drained it alot of gas came out.
I tried starting it but wouldnt start.
Then drained carbs again but very little came out. 9-10 drops.

help!!

After you drained the carb, did you remember to open the tank fuel again?
sorry for the obvious question.

Yes it was. Anyways I got it running after draining the carbs like 10 times lol.

I did what VFR.CBR said.

Drained the carbs then drained the tank. After filling up with fresh gas I drained the carbs twice again and it fired up! running fine for now.

Thanks for the reply guys!

glad to know you are running again...

I've never had water on my tank before, but I would honestly run a bit of sea-foam on the bike to make sure your carb is clean
