scratches are scratches. it doesnt matter where they are located. it depends on how deep they are if they went through the clear coat

Yes it depends on the severity of the scratch but always try a small area first.

My tank bag scratched my clear coat, I'll check this out when I get home and hopefully I can get rid of them!

Personally I'd try something less aggressive first, like Meg's Scratch X. I know on my 250 the dealer scuffed the tank in a few places before I took delivery, and I was able to clean things up 99% just using that.
