Vfr 800 monitor wire

Is it safe to hook the monitor wire directly to the battery on a 1998 vfr?

My bike currently overcharges when it is hooked up anywhere except direct to the battery. Including to the spot in the harness, and jumpered to the rear running light. Mech says hooking direct to battery might blow the ecu.

The monitor wire from the regulator goes to switched power.
Not that it should matter, last time I saw your bike it didn't have a monitor wire.

You need to find another mechanic, he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

If it is not fixed by this coming weekend I will probably just take it back, since it is down to such a simple fix. I just got worried when he said leaving the monitor wire hooked up to the battery might blow my ecu.
