Valve cover gasket replacement

I need to replace my valve cover gasket. Is there anything else I should look for while I have the cover off?

rawr, did you order a new gasket? how much did it cost you?
Also did you get *new* grommets + seals?

valve clearance/adj, maybe cam chain adj. I will also be doing clutch rebuild, carb rebuild, and probably worn seals (smoking oil at startup, when heats up disappears)

Ordered the oem gasket off eBay for under $20 shipped. I will order the grommets too.

is this for 250? If so the two teardrop gaskets for the sparkplug holes for sure. I had those fail on mine. Also check your crank breather tube going to the airbox that its attached and working. I've heard if they get plugged or rott and break excess pressure may cause oil pushing out of the valve cover gaskets easier.

It's for my 1986 Yamaha Radian 600. Crank breather tube has been replaced by a cone filter.

Nice, I will probably be doing the same thing over the winter. Do you have that special tool to do valves for replacing shims? Also do you have a set of filler gages? :)

I'm wondering if i should order those. I'm also planning on carb rebuild.

breather filters are not really the best option, your not creating a negative pressure.

What would you suggest as a better option in this case? Despite the filter being there, there's still a fair amount of oil that spews out. The airbox has been removed in favour of cone filters. Carbs have been jetted.

I'd say catch can. The oil filters for air compressors work well . But no air box makes it tough .

You can buy feeler gauges at Canadian tire. Not sure of the layout on this bike but on modern sport bikes you don't need any special tools to remove/replace schims.
