Selling a car and the UVIP states: "as of the date above, the average values for this vehicle are not available."

Does this mean they will go with the sales price I write on the UVIP? If I can save the buyer a few bucks, I will.

My understanding is that it doesn’t matter what the Bill of Sale says privately. SO has the values for the car, and they’ll take the higher of the sale price, or blue book value…

Motorcycles and other toys, sure you can save some money by declaring lower than sold, but not for cars as they have the records.

If the car has a book value, then Service Ontario uses that as the price for the HST calculation, or the price on the bill of sale, whichever is higher. If the car is older than 25 years old, then you need an appraisal on the value of the car and you pay HST on whatever it's appraised at. If the car is under 25 years old and has no book value, then you pay HST on what's written on the bill of sale.

It has changed a little, if they didn't have a bluebook value you got to cheat on taxes before....Last year I had to pay a body shop $40 to get an appraisal done on a vehicle that didn't have a bluebook value...
Edit- see above

That value shpuld be printed on the uvip. If he doesn't have a printed value and it is less than 25 years old, the value he writes should count.

Sort of. An appraiser works with what they are told. A blown engine reduces the value substantially. Loophole is just different now.

I was lucky my appraiser took my expert advice as to what vehicle was worth. If you have a business with a RIN number that you register multiple vehicles/trailers in you are allowed to pay taxes on declared value, not bluebook. I have done this many times without issue.

This is what I'm going with. The onus is on the MTO to have a value (retail high/low ) printed on the UVIP. It's a 2006 car and states "as of the date above, the average values for this vehicle are not available." If they don't have a value, they'll have to go with the sale price I write. I'm guessing that whatever is on the UVIP, is on their screen as well. So I'm counting on saving the guy a few bucks.

I cannot see the MTO asking you do go for an appraisal to get a vehicle registered.

You will likely need an appraisal, which is a total joke.

30secs on kijiji and you can find multiple people offering a print your own MTO appraisal service. Cost me $30 last time.

Lady at the SO office in Ajax turned me onto it, with a wink.

Careful with that one. They blacklist "appraisers" who they suspect are doing that. When you go to register at the desk they will deny you and send you back home to go get a "proper one". Happened to a buddy of mine.

The last time I went to Service Ontario to register a 50cc scooter I'd picked up for VERY cheap they didn't ask for a UVIP, bill of sale or appraisal.
I told the guy how much I'd paid for it, filled out the form and had a plate. In and out, less than 15 minutes.
AND this very cute cougar tried to pick me up while I was standing in line, how cool is that ?

Oh yeah, and they gave me a blue on white plate, not a restricted one ???

I made sure to go to the same lady, just incase.

Well my story was about a lady at SO, so I'm not sure where the guy came from.

She was winking to let me in on a secret, or she was having some kind of medical distress. Either way it worked out in my favour.
It was a S.O. guy, but whatevere
