Used Oil

So I did an oil change last week, the first one with out the added benefit of working at a shop. Wondering what people do with the used oil. Other then using it as lawn fertilizer. (Lol, get the reference?)

I figured I would walk/ride to a couple of car shops and see if they would dispose of it for a small fee or something.

Canadian tire takes it. Also you local city works yard likely has a depot for it

Canadian Tire.

Try taking it to an auto shop. They often dispose of it for free since they use the spent oil to heat the shop.

City of Toronto has a few residential drop off locations for used oil and hazardous waste. No charge. They just ask you sign in your address.Usually they are are located at the waste transfer stations for your area.

Crappy tire charges me an environmental fee so naturally I leave them a present

I used to work in Household Hazardous Waste for a municipal government.

It's free to drop off any HHW product but please DONT just leave a container of used oil somewhere on the municipal property. Hand it over to someone

they have to take the oil, we pay a disposal fee when we buy oil from Crapadian Tire.

No they dont.

They will ask you 2 things, is it in the original container? And did you buy it from this store?

Failure of any of those, and you will pay the disposal fee (again) which is ********. For the CT store that failed to take mine, i left them 16 litres as a gift overnight.

There's a waste drop off, but the line is so god damn long

shops sell their waste oil and it gets recycled and put in cars that go to walmart, most will take it for free as long as its not mixed with anything else.

a lot of people just leave it out in front of mechanic shops at night, my mechanic told me that once and he didnt really care.

No they dont.

So i should jsut drop off the container, which says its like glomop or something, durign the night infront of the bay doors? wipe the container free of prints?

I just returned a few litres of used oil in old soda bottles. No one asked me anything.

Tell the manager is they do not accept used oil, then they should not be selling oil.
