Hi there guys I'm glad to be part of this forum, I have recently bought a used bike 2004 Suzuki gs500f as my first bike to learn on now it has passed safety and my friend drove it for me from Whitby to Brampton, I am wondering if I should get a general inspection done from kahuna powersports? it's about 20$ would it be worth it has anyone had this done before? Thanks.

I'm sure they'll give you a nice long list of what "needs" to be done to the bike.

If it passed a current safety, why bother?

Alright I was thinking something similar I will be doing an oil change myself today and clean the chain and then lubricate it and I think that should be it really although the brakes seem to squeal some while riding it but that could be because the guy had it sitting outside for a week or two waiting to sell it I mean the pads are fine more than enough left for good brakes. Thanks everyone.

Most of the GS's on the forum squeal while breaking i believe. When i bought mine it didn't, after replacing the front and back brake it does. Don't know why, but if you happen to figure it out please do share. Also we have a few members who own GS's Like Sabex, Tricky, Rafiki911, defect_9 etc, feel free to contact us. I got my bike 2.5 months back, so i am still a Noobie as they call it(Noobie to sports bike not riding).

Great thanks for sharing the info on the riders, and I will continue to figure out the brake issue probably won't stop until I figure it out, have you tried things like "disc brake quiet fluid" or "brake cleaner" from canadian tire? Also will Viral Lubricant Powersports DOT 4 Brake Fluid work fine as brake can any brake fluid be used?

Just ride it for a few weeks. You may find that the squeal will disappear, since you said the bike was sitting for a few weeks.

You can change out the fluid if you wish, but it will have no bearing on a brake squeal issue whatsoever.

I'll take your advice and ride it for a few weeks to see if the squeal goes away and the fluid was just for general knowledge to top up if needed :)
Thanks! I love this place.

Hey ajatt, welcome to the forums. Try to make it out next time we meet up

As for the inspection, just give it a good look-over and an oil change... the GS is very simple, not much to go wrong.

As for your brakes, my rear brake has squealed like a piggy since I bought the bike (used). The front is usually quiet, but can give a little howl depending on the bike's mood..

I replaced the rear brake pad, it didn't help. When I had my bike in for service, they took the caliper apart, cleaned it, and sanded the pads. That helped for about 50km and then it started squealing again. I stopped trying, so let me know if you solve the problem. I just stopped using my rear brake in the city around people, because it has the potential to make children cry

My rear break squeaks to all holy hell.
I personally wouldn't put any kind of fluid on my breakpads or rotors... because physics.

finished changing the oil replaced it with full synthetic mobil1 the old oil was pure black muck, the bike sounds a lot different and better now

Yes I used mobil1 10w-40 motorcycle oil made sure from the gstwin site
