US Lottery Winnings - How to get tax refunded?

- GF in Vegas, she won a decent sum of cash on slot machines
- IRS took 30%, she got the rest cash
- I understand there are forms somewhere that can be filled out in order to get that 30% back
- Can anyone direct me towards those forms or give some info on how that is done?

Not going to help you now but I called one of those 1-800 #'s that the advertise everywhere down there. The ended up taking care of everything for me and only charged me 10%. Personally it wasn't worth the wait or effort to do it any other way.

10% of the refund it was a few years ago so I cant remember the exact logistics. They had a chart of either flat rate or the percentage which ever was more.
 
If she does everything on her own vs hiring someone, I've been told that the key is to tell the U.S govt that you used over $10,000 USD on gambling or more. This way they will refund you all of your winnings.

grandparents are snowbirds, go to Vegas multiple times a year... They always apply on their own and say that this is the key to it all.

LOL.. nah, it wasn't that much money that she won. I'd make a great trophy husband though. Make breakfast before she leaves for work, mountain bike or road bike mid morning, lunch and a book on the back deck for an hour then hit the gym or go for a run. Mow the lawn and/or work on the moto in the late afternoon and have dinner ready for when she gets home. And flowers! Bitches love flowers!
