The track is just an oval. No real changes of direction, no opportunity for accelerating or braking much. Horsepower and brakes don't matter. Then it's a test of how closely you want to approach the limits of traction of the tires.

What's with the foot thing... I get it on dirt track I guess, but on anything solid if seems like a recipe for a busted leg in a split second if you do actually lose it.

My guess is that boot has a slider on it. He is running right on the edge of traction. Similar to a knee on a SS, that foot both provides him with feedback on lean angle and a nudge back up if the bike starts to slide away.
