Unique case while suing my current insurance company

I had a sport bike together with my auto and house with my insurance company last year. Due to experience, my rate was around 700/year for 2006 CBR1000RR (30 year old full M). I sold the bike last summer.

Now I'm middle of court case with my insurance company and insurance companies of a few cars that hit me in a major accident and injured me. This unfortunate accident happened last winter and has left me with some major injuries that I'm getting major treatment for. Since I'm the victim (not at fault) so apparently all insurance companies get sued here by me and I cannot get insurance from them.

I also happen to own an older 600cc R6 in the garage with no insurance, and although not able to ride for long after the injuries sustained in accident, because all my lifetime of riding, I cannot stop to crave to at least go for 1 hour joy ride. It's in my blood. Some of you know what I mean who had a bike ever since you remember.

Can anyone suggest a few companies that let you only insure a bike with decent rates?

Tried Dejardin / CIBC / State Farm so far and they all ask for both my car and bike to be insured together. (these are the agents I've tried in north end of city; seems like they are doing this to make it worth while for them? I'm not sure)

(PS: my court case probably settles right after this summer so I'm looking for a company for just this year)....

I was going to say just track it but maybe not if you are still recovering.

Thats funny... State farm had no issues insuring just a bike for me. Although I did opt for my car as well.

Riders plus? (Through intact)

+1 statefarm should insure you without a car, rate might not be as nice as you would like though.

I don't see what you current court case (i.e. open insurance claim) has to do with your ability to get quotes with other companies? You were not at fault in the collision, so it should have absolutely no impact on your future rates or your eligibility for insurance.

I hope you get better soon!

And a +1 to you to.

For me $85 for bike and car. (Just for the bike/month)

And $140 for bike alone.

State Farm and TD MM will both insure just your bike

Also Seamus Kelly (SF), Home for Chrome, John Duffy, and others that I can't recall from memory. (I'm with TD MM)

Okay this may have now seem like a waste of a post but I wanted to reply what happened. I'll share this for the next guy who one day may read this and be in my unfortunate shoes.

First off thanks mates for the support and responses!

I called a few more SF agents in North end today and all said they need both vehicles unless bike is the only method of transportation for me.

I still do have a plate on the R6 so decided to risk it all and pull a very dumb and irrisponsible move. I went for a ride in country side.

First ride after the accident (5 months pass almost). One of the major damages was cervical vertebrate and neck. It's been a few months, so I didn't think it would matter as much. I'm posting this for anyone who is ever as dumb as me to even try to go on bike after automobile accident with whiplash/back/etc injuries. Your neck cannot handle the wind. Yeah. The wind... This is street level wind gush not even highway shoulder check. .... You come home and after 3-4 hours it'll kill you. My back was okay in the ride but it's starting to hurt again too due to the road bumps and stuff.

Looks like you need way more than 5 month of recovery...... No riding this summer ... ...

if you're not "at-fault" then you should have no problems getting insurance

I think he meant that due to being in a legal battle against clients of the insurers, they don't want to offer him insurance unless he carries everything over so they know he's committed to it. It's odd that they'd want both but maybe it has to do with the fact that they have the information about his at fault accident listed and suspect he may be faking it for legal compensation?

An insurance company cannot simply decline to quote you unless you do not meet their eligibility criteria filed with the regulator. If you are denied a quote, you could ask for the reason for the denial and then ask if that reason is detailed in their Underwriting Manual's filed eligibility criteria.
