4.1 Who is Covered

For the purposes of Section 4, insured persons are defined in the Statuary Accident Benefits Schedule. In addition, insured persons also include any person who is injured or killed in an automobile accident involving the automobile and is not the named insured, or the spouse, same-sex partner or dependant of a named insured, under any other motor vehicle liability policy, and is not covered under the policy of an automobile in which they were an occupant or which struck them.

How many people understand this? (This represents the biggest chunk of your M/C premium)

I read it as insurance follows the vehicle, so any person lawfully operating that vehicle would be insured under the policy.

You are also apparently covered if you are out for a walk and get hit by a car of if you are a passenger in someone else's car.

I think it means if your name appears on a policy or you are married to someone who's name is on a policy or you are a dependant of someone whose name is on a policy you are covered.

I think it is irrelevant if you are in your vehicle or a vehicle without accident benefits (i.e. a vehicle from the USA)

So lets say mom, pop and the kids drive to visit cousin Clem in the USA. They switch vehicles down there and all get into a crash. It sounds like everyone gets covered even though cousin Clem doesn't have accident benefits.

Keep in mind, the crash can't be too serious because standard coverage is only $50K. If you increase the benefits on your car policy they should also cover you on your bike. I would think it's cheaper to buy extra coverage for the car.

My car insurance agent mumbles when I ask, so I think I am right.
