Uncorked! 2023 Kawasaki ZX-4RR Vs Yamaha R7 – On Track

I just read that article independently. Little confused though - Troy Siahaan describes the R7's forks as non-adjustable in the article, but I thought they were fully adjustable? I dunno how you would miss that if you were riding it. But it's not his first rodeo by any means... did VerticalScope replace him with a robot?

If I stop puzzling over that detail and consider the rest of the article, the bikes are better matched than I thought. A little funny that the R7 has fancier forks but the ZX-4RR has a fancier shock.

I kinda wonder what our own grizzled track wizards make of the reviews comments on brakes. It seems like he found the ABS obtrusive on both bikes... and complains about the ZX-4RR having an axial MC (to be completely fair, I guess he's really saying that the Brembo MC on the R7 feels better)

What a little screamer!

Very compact. I'm a short guy and even I felt cramped on this thing. Right heel was butted up against the exhaust guard with my toe on the peg and I'm a size 8.

Docile at low revs, needs to be kept at a boil for any useable power as is the case for most 4-bangers, but still, pretty amazing for a 400cc. Rolling around town with the engine howling at 7000 rpm, and then banging it up to the next gear at 12K is how she likes it.

Quickshifter is buttery smooth and doesn't matter which gear or revs you're in, even 2->1 is smooth. Probably best QS I've tried so far.

Brakes are decent, nothing special to write home about. Showa forks with preload adjustment only on the top of the right fork. I think the real story here is the engine, it didn't feel like a 400cc at all, especially when you got it screaming. Nice.

Would make a great track bike.

I'm assuming that one has the limiter still active?

I'm positive I shifted around 12+K without bouncing off any electronic rev limiter:

Maybe the shop already uncorked it when they lent it to us? 🤷‍♂️

Imma check tomorrow when I go in. 😈 😈 😈

Unfortunately the only tunnels I know of around here are on dirtbike trails... :(

I'm not sure if they put a hard cut or if they just limit fueling so hp peak happens really early.

It's a soft limiter. It should still rev to the redline but the power curve artificially trails off after 11.5k.
