unclaimed $70m lotto max

It says that the winning ticket was sold in Scarborough and that the place had no security cameras. How many places sell lottery tickets but don't have cameras. It can't be that many. $70M if you can guess right and claim that you lost the ticket. They say that they have security questions but they don't have much info to go on.

Last I heard there were over 750 people that had started claims for a lost ticket related to this. It is in Olg's best interests to run honest draws that never get claimed. Same income, half the expenses.

If they wanted to make things easier to claim, it should be feasible to have a camera at each purchase location and they store all video for a year. They could easily trim down storage requirements by only keeping footage around the time a major winner was purchased which they know within a week.

Idea:
Camera on the olg terminal
Turns on then the ticket is printed
Video is embedded with ticket info.

That's why I always:
a) keep the receipt with the ticket
b) use a cc for lotto

They ask all sorts of questions if you have to claim....when where what time how did you pay what else did you buy.

Last time I bought a ticket at our local Shoppers the clerk refused to serve me at the counter, instead she made we select and pay for it on the self serve checkout and then she went and did the ticket at the counter while I waited at the self serve...

They are refusing to serve anyone at the cash these days unless you only have cash. Wonder how it will work out in this context??

If olg has a video policy, that would not be allowed. I figured they could easily make a policy where buyer must be on dot (hell, automate the machine so it won't print a ticket if it doesn't see a face in the target area).

Are they allowed to refuse to cash you out?
My understanding has always been that they HAVE to give you that option.
As well, why do I think that you can't be charged with theft/ shoplifting if you make an attempt to pay, they refuse, and then you leave with the product.
But that's probably just something I made up a long time ago and convinced myself that it was true.

I guess if I went all Karen maybe they will cash me out...

I won $1k once. Mostly my lottery tickets are just an extra tax on my grocery bill.
OLG app will let you scan tickets and tell you if you won. The last time I checked a recent ticket, it gave me "draw not yet completed". It really should have "would you like to save ticket to your account" when you do that. That way you can put your impulse purchase into the system and the paper ticket becomes less important (obviously some safeguards would be required on redemption so an employee didn't scan all tickets before handing them out).

In early 2021 my wife won $4300.
She had 5 out of 6 numbers. I believe the last number was only off by 1 or maybe "she had a 13 but they drew a 31" 🎶 🤘🎶🤘
And the winning prize was like $13 mil.

The excitement only lasted so long as the following week we spend at least half of that on a new fridge.

I also get the 'you're a winner' email quite often.
It's typically my mom.

I'd rather get the $2... 🤷‍♂️
Same as the " I Love You" emails?

Woah, let's not get carried away... this is an Asian mom we're talking about here...
OK.
"Did you finish your homework" emails?
Yes even at your age.
