Unbelievable World Series ending call (vid)

Bummer way to end the game. But clearly the right call, and even though intent doesn't enter into it, the raising of the legs clinched it for me. That was just wrong!!! Also excellent that the ump caught that immediately before play was completed.

I guess the 3rd baseman should have melted into the ground after missing the ball? He was there due to a play and wanted to get up cuz he was still in the play. The runner could have easily have gone around.

Im gonna go with Italians playing soccer type of call here.

The rules are clear and intent doesn't matter. He was there and obstructed the play. Correct call and I applaud the ump for being brave enough to make the right call regardless of the popularity (or lack thereof)

First time that has ever happened and resulted in a world series walk off. !
It was the correct call. And as stated, sharp call! Even though its a rule, still takes balls given the circumstances.

It was pretty clear and the right call. Intentional or not doesn't matter. Same goes for a base runner if he gets hit by the ball after a batter hits it, automatically called out even though there might not be any way of dodging it. Also it doesn't even look like that tough of a ball to catch. The third baseman flopped on this big time. Why he was trying to keep his leg on the bag I don't know since it wasn't even a forced play. It was a good throw on Saltalamacchia part.

thats what makes baseball awesome, that throw, the bobble headed third baseman. And a world class ump making right calls.

oh , and F the redsox.

FTR I never had the patience to sit through an entire baseball game (or an inning for that matter) but that doesn't change the fact that I respect the ump for having a pair and making the right call.

this is honestly one of the better world series. Do you remember the last time these teams met in the world series.... boooring!
