UK hates speed cams more than we do ;)

This page is probably the highlight of the entire site. To my knowledge this is the largest collection of wrecked Gatsos on the internet, and its growing rapidly. So long as these cameras are robbing motorists of their cash they will continue to be destroyed.
Five Gatsos have just gone up in Nuneaton. One of them was completely destroyed before it had even gone live. The workmen hadn't even finished installing it.

Two years on from when most of the above cameras were vandalised and they are still being set alight. This one is on the A4174 Ring Road at Filton and the pictures were taken by a passer by on a camera phone. The Gatso was repaired the following day.

No just in the UK. A friend of mine is from Austria and he told me stories about 'friends' keeping spray paint in their cars to paint over the lenses of speed cameras.

No vandalism of our no existent speed cameras.

Stupid idea to destroy these things though.

I like the idea for the same reason I recommend for everyone to dispute their HTA-related charges all the time. Makes the system less profitable. If it gets to the point where it becomes a money-loser, taxpayers will eventually force the services to focus on safety as opposed to revenue generation.

id do it. if i was in the uk

whose paying for the the replacement camera and install?

Personally I find vandalism a cowardly act.

No, they will just raise the fines.

The taxpayers.. They tolerate legalized highway robbery because it brings money into the public coffers. If it becomes a drain like the LGR, the taxpayers will pressure their elected officials to shift the focus of their services' British equivalent of the HTA enforcement activities from making money to safety.

Plugging the courts only gives the government justification to spend more money on building more court houses and appointing more judges. They would be paid for by higher taxes and higher fines. Do not underestimate the dim wittedness of the general population. The business of policing for profit just keeps on growing.

On the other hand if people drove like they were on a road test the cops wouldn't have any tickets to write, judges no decisions to hand down and empty buildings. If you want to destroy a business you eliminate the customer base.

because you go to see a judge when you get a traffic ticket? lol

If they did, then the tolerances would get tighter and there would be more laws passed in order to keep the money flowing. You underestimate the lengths that government officials are willing to go in order to pad the coffers without raising the taxes. South of the border some municipalities weren't even imposing municipal taxes. They got more than enough money out of fleecing the driver.. $100 tickets for 1 mile over the limit, for example. Of course, the cops were "trained in visual estimation" so they didn't even have to use radars or lidars. Their "visual estimation" holds greater weight in court than GPS logs for example. That's what'd happen if everybody started driving/riding like they were taking a road test.

They might have to go after the bicycles doing their dumb things and when grampa who hasn't had a ticket in 50 years get ticketted for one over the self righteous might wake up to what's going on. One can hope but I won't hold my breath.
