Painting the FZ6 this week, talking color options with my buddy trying to get it laid out.

The main idea will be white, and the secondary color will be a dark gunmetal pearl type color. A red pinstripe will split the colors.

Not sure what way to go with the white, either pearl, just a plain crisp white, or he suggested a white off of the CBR 125 that he says has a bit of a hue to it, I haven't seen it myself.

Just seeing if you artistic minded folks can think anything up?
 
I had the white CBR 125.... loved it and have been partial to white as a bike colour ever since. It's definitely a nice colour of white - more on the crisp side - although I was washing my bike a lot more often then I do with my Green Kawi... but white just looks so sharp when it's clean.
 
When it's time to paint mine - white is on the list. But it will be all pearl white.
My color preference for FZ6:
1.Black
2. Yellow and Black - Yamaha bumble bee scheme, I think that would be sickest, the most rad color for FZ6:

3. Pearl white - i think someone of FZ6 board painted his.

So since I can't bring any valuable answer to your question - please post before and after pics!

Black is just as bad for keeping clean, which it is right now... And it's usually muddy from being at the track lol.

I just saw an FZ in the yellow pattern but can't find the pic now. Was nice for sure.
I almost considered copying the current white and red FZ8 scheme, but figured I would be a bit original. I'm also hopefully making my own seat cowl tomorrow if I can find foam to make my mold with... And yes, there will be before and after pics!

I've wanted to paint it this way for about 2 years now, so it's time!

My buddy has painted countless bikes, and we met when we worked in a collision shop together, so we're set!

Come out with a paint job that would likely be $1000 to fix the little blemishes on the bike plus it's not just a solid color.

Hmm, I have some hope then - I recently lowsided mine so all my dough which was saved for painting over winter is pretty much gone. I may be able to save enough before snow to do pearl white. How many coats for this money?
I think 2 primes+4-5 paint and couple of clearcoat should do? I painted bike once - partially, couple of plastics on my gs500, came out pretty good. And 2 primes +3 paint + 2 clearcoats works awesome for custom bicycles I do. But I imagine bike which is used pretty much year round will require more.

Gatekeeper, if you don't mind sharing - how many coats was yours and what was approximate cost?
 
I did not ask if "carboncat" wanted me to pass on the pirce for the work he did for me, so I will not post it right now, I will get his permission, or he can chime in here on his own and give out that info.

I can tell you this much, it was half of what everyone else quoted me to do the job, and most only quoted the painting, I needed sanding, bondo, prep etc....

I am happy with the results, especially for the amount I paid....


I heard him say that too many coats of a pearl colour will make it look milky, so one has to be careful on how it's done....

Your bike looks awesome! I hope he will chime in - not so much curious about the price but how many coats, etc.
 
Dan's parts were 3 coats of white and 2 coats of pearl.
avarage cost of paint jobs on a bike are around 500.00 to start with basic repairs, (stone chips and minor scuffs)

Is pearl some kind of clear coat? and what about primer or do you just start with white?
 
Pearl is in the base coat. Base pearl has more clear in it along with the "pearl" to give it that deep effect.
Were throwing on a couple coats of white before we throw down the pearl white.
 
Here is the bike, almost done.
We still need to polish the tank and front fender and then finish the red pinstripe between the white and black. Once it's finished I will take some real pics instead of just iphone stuff.

It's a big change that I'm still not used to. Needs a tinted screen now too I think.
