Had a ride on a friend’s Tuono 660 today. All I can say is wow, I can’t get the grin off my face.

That motor just wants to be reved. It seems to be happiest when it’s getting a lot of throttle but unlike a big bike wont bite you (as bad) and the torque and gearing is all about the real world instead of trying to eeking out every last HP and MPH. It pulls right from the bottom through the rev range until it runs out of steam.

Suspension is really good. You can just chuck it into corners, and it didn’t get upset, even on broken pavement. The brakes are really good although I think the bike only weighs about 400lbs. It was also very comfortable with the seating position leaning slightly forward without a lot of weight on the wrists. Its something you could ride all day.

It’s supposed to be the entry level bike into the Aprilia range. I wish they had this when I was looking for a beginner bike.

I’m really impressed. If I had to pick holes I think they could have done the dash better but that’s a minor thing.

Lovely bike

I suspect it'll be even better once your friend gets the flat spot mapped out

I agree it looks great, saw one in person while checking out some guzzi's and its basically the size of a ninja 250....but with all that power and torque

the footpegs seemed high though, maybe thats just the curse of being 6'2

at 13k its not really an entry level bike though

And in typical italian fashion it sounds and looks great

What colour did you get to ride? I love the blue.
I dont think the tuono comes in blue, that would be the RS

I personally love the silver and red
:love::love:

Black and red with the red wheels. If I were in the market it would definitely be on the list

I have ridden the MT-07 before and I think the 660 is a much nicer bike, although the Yamaha is probably bulletproof

Yeah, the 07 is a great bike, but this is on another next level, probably closer to the mt09sp

tuono 660 13k, mt09sp 14k, and then the new s1000r is 16.5k msrp and thats a different level for not much more
The issue is the insurance, it is becoming almost impossible to insure 1000cc+ bikes.... quote for a 660 was $745 and for the 1100 Tuono $1860. And that is assuming they will insure you, I called 11 insurance companies and 5 flat out told me "No" and the others were as high as $3500.

The thing I really liked about the 660 though, is that you could ride it hard.

I many respects its a bit of a hooligan bike that you can thrash and just have the throttle sitting on the stop without it doing 180mph and scaring you to death. It certainly has a lot less power than the 1100 or the s1000r but I think on the street the power that's there is much more usable.

This is exactly why I'm considering swapping my Tuono V4 for the RS660. Riding my big Tuono on the street at sane speeds is pure overkill. It's literally too good for the job. It was great for some of the more remote backroads I used to ride in BC, but those don't exist for me here, and so the bike feels like a caged tiger.

The value thing is much less of a factor, as I like/want the various gizmos that come with the Aprilias, especially the IMU on the RS for advanced ABS and TC options. It's hitting a different target than the Yamaha MT's for me. If you want value, the Tuono V4's can be had with big discounts, too. I only paid $14k for mine new a few years ago, as it was a previous year model.

I rode the RS and Tuono 660 at an Aprilia track day last year, and absolutely loved them both. But the RS really hit a sweet spot for me with the sporty ergos without being a torture rack, and the leaned forward position really doing a good job of translating front tire feel through the bars. It felt so light and flickable, too, making direction changes effortless. It would be a perfect street/track double weapon, at least for me. The only thing holding me back is a much bigger decision about whether I want to continue riding on the street at all, but that's a different thread...

Always liked mid-range bikes and that sounds like a superb fun machine even tho not in my future.
I'd wanted a CB400f for a while for similar reasons tho it was never in the same class.
I hate to even look for the price on the Aprilla here in Australia would be mind numbing.

I did have a shot at the Aprilla 850 here but no money and not all that practical

Wonder if Aprilla has demo days in Aus. Strictly enforced speed limits here so of takes the fun out but would be an absolute blast on the Gillies. 260 turns, 19 km, 1500m climb and perfect pavement. Bike was made for it.
