Yeah, it's a brake light I saw. Weird part is that if the biker had stayed in lane 2, it seemed completely clear for an overtake. You can force the video to 1080p/60 for clearer viewing. Passing on the right is always a risky proposition. You pretty much have to expect this to happen, especially after a double lane change at speed. The only warning from the truck is the brakes as the rider is about to pass it. Then the signal doesn't come on until it's actually changing lanes into the rider.
What for?Sometime it is hard to have a clear view of the license plate on the back of the trailer. Second best would be take note of the trailer number and if possible the company name.
A million years ago when I was young and stupid I got a ticket for 'passing on the right, not in safety'.A quick google search. 2007
Passing to right of vehicle - 150.
(1) The driver of a motor vehicle may overtake and pass to the right of another vehicle only where the movement can be made in safety and,
Turn signals are supposed to be used BEFORE turning, not while. The purpose is to warn others of your intention, which is pointless once you've already started moving into another lane. Not saying the rider wasn't speeding, but that "professional" driver should know better and isn't completely innocent either.Isn't it possible that the truck driver saw the motorcycle's headlight coming up fast on the left and, as a courtesy, attempted to quickly move to the right to allow the bike to pass. The video doesn't show what traffic situation that the truck driver was evaluating as he brakes and moves right. The motorcycle appears (to me) to have a huge speed differential between itself and the surrounding cars. The truck driver can't be blamed in this case; manoeuvring these big rigs insight traffic situations like this is really difficult. The motorcyclist should have also evaluated the changing traffic situation and adapted IMO.
