I test rode a street triple R at the end of last year, and was really amazed with the engine and handling.
I wanted a naked bike for the comfort and city riding.
However, I am concern that it may be too windy on the highway.
I am also considering a 600cc sports bike from the big 4. Do you really get tired after riding for 30 mins on a sports bike??
I know they are different riding style, etc.
I am split... I want both ;). But if you can only pick one, which do you pick?

A lot depends on the person riding.

If you are short, great core strength, grip the tank with your knees, don't lean on your wrists; you can ride for hours on a SS and not get tired.

If you're taller, sloppy with your posture, lack the proper riding technique then you'll get tired after 15 minutes.

You pick the one that suits you and most comfortable for you. I'm 6'2, 175lbs and lanky arms, the VFR 800 fits me like a glove. A GSX-R 1000, no chance in hell!

street triple! windblast won't kick in till 180kph imo. riding a sports bike will break your back for the first two weeks and then you should be able to adjust.

lol, i don't plan to get up to 180kph :laughing8:

I'd take the Striple only because it's outrageously different!

The cbr600 since 2007 is extremely comfortable. I don't think it much different than the triple

I don't find wind an issue at all. BTW, the Fly Screen does nothing, it's really just for show. Personally, I think it looks better with it as the bug eyes look like they stick out too much without the fly screen. You can get windscreens for it.

However, I do get unconfortable after about an hour on the Street Triple R. The seat isn't great and it forces you to slide forward until your nuts get crushed. I got Tech Specs and that helps a lot in keeping me from sliding, but still the seat itself isn't formed very well.

Around the 110 mark it's manageable for me, in fact the lack of fairing means there is no air buffeting me around at all, until I get behind another vehicle. Otherwise, the wind is just one constant, consistent push that's almost relaxing (that's without the fly screen). Once I get in the region of 120 or over then it's a fight if I don't tuck.

Agree about the stock seat, it's unbelievably bad. I got mine with a Sargent's seat so that's taken care of.

As for 600 SS, I know some people ride them all day no problem. Up to the individual I guess. But since jay-d mentions it, they are all generally shorter people who can do that.

^ This...the windscreen on the Daytona is also so damn small that it might as well be a Street Triple

The triple is way more comfortable than any supersport. Wind makes no difference till you hit 140+ imo. And at that speed it feels the same as a supersport anyway.

Interesting question. Im 5,11 and ride zx-6r and Im good for 2 hours or so. Like others have said it comes down to your posture and core strength. That being said next year I am looking at migrating to a Speed Triple or similar.

These bikes have such great performance, added to the better ergos they are hard not to have a good look at.

2 hours is nothing, anyone should be able to ride an ss that long... But the naked bikes are simply more comfortable. Its not a distance thing to me, its just comfort. Being hunched over a gas tank with my knees in my throat just doesnt feel right any more.

so what about a Daytona 675? Same engine as a Street Triple, fully faired like a SS bike. Seems like a win-win to me, plus I think the daytona looks better

I'm 50ish and I'm only good for 2hrs on the Buell at a time...well maybe the first 2 hrs good...then break...then hour and a half...break...hour....break...etc. I got 0 degree bars so I'm a lil hunched over.
When I'm on the 400 series hwy with the naked...I'm tucked. But I don't really do much major hwy riding.
Your good up to 100 km h or so.

No question; my days of sport bikes is gone. I live the ergos of a sport inspired naked / street fighter with the performance (or near) of a sport bike.

Up to 100?? WTF.. you're good to 100 on a vespa let alone a sport naked bike.

This is the second time you are surprised at other peoples riding thresholds. I suspect this come down to age. That is as you get older your tolerance for certain riding positions diminishes. It happens to the best of us.
