Trenton Air Show

There hasn’t been one for years but it’s coming up. This is a decent ride out for you GTA types. From Trenton you’re not far from Prince Edward County too.

Both days?

I’ve been waiting for this for a few years now. They kept cancelling and saying “next year, next year”.
yep, courses are 2 days!

I loved airshows...I still remember going to one back in early 1990s somewhere in southern Ontario and there was a MIG from Russia. What impressed me back then was the pilot went nose up into the sky, let off, and then let gravity pull it back down to Earth, with the nose still pointed up into the sky coming down for a long time. In a regular plane, the aerilons would have ripped off.

Also, back in 2009, the US showed a F22 or F35 (can't exactly remember) and it dwarfed the Canadian F18s. And the pressure from the after burners were really intense.

Totally loved it!!!

Take Highway 2 from Cobourg (lunch?) for a more scenic ride. There are a couple of twisties just before Colborne to pay attention to.
You're in apple country!

Hmmm I might be able to make 1 of those days.

Always liked the Ex airshows as a kid. But nothing has beat the airshow I saw in 2000, in Chicago, at Navy pier.
That was something.

As much as I enjoy our Snowbirds, the Blue Angels were pretty amazing. They also flew pretty low to the crowd you could practically see the pilot. (they did this inverted formation). Then the stealth bomber appeared at the end.

Love air shows too. I’ve been to two of the biggest in the world, Farnborough and the Paris air show and both were incredible. Watched a Nimrod take off and blow a barn gate off its hinges.

The great thing about the Trenton airshow (at least back in the day, not sure now) was the crowd is allowed onto the apron and you can get up close to lots of a/c.

One of the coolest thing I saw was a CC177 do a short field approach and touch and go. The way that machine descent and climb like it's on an elevator is mindboggling.

I was in the shadow of an F117, awacs and a couple other cool planes at Trenton decades ago. Pretty cool and lets you see angles and details that you don't normally see.

When I flew to Australia from Japan just after my broken leg recovery stay, they had to put me in a lift with clear walls rising up the side of the 787 to a door just aft of the cockpit....seeing a Dreamliner from that viewpoint was startling.
What a massive machine !!!

I haven't been for decades and recall being close up unlike the CNE show. We did the CNE one from a boat once and we were so far offshore it wasn't great.

Another time we watched from the restaurant at the top of the TD centre. That was a bit different in that you got to see the turn arounds and regroupings far to the west.

I used to be an air cadet. I remember being on a base that seemed pretty deserted. I was just hanging around after breakfast taking in the sights which were just open runways with nothing on them. Turned away and when I looked back two jaguar fighters had appeared from nowhere. Apparently there was an elevator under the base. A bit later on that week I was flying in a single engine Chipmunk with one of the jaguar pilots and as we circled to land, he cut the engine and told me to bail out the plane (I had a parachute). I was a bit stunned and that’s when he said “only joking”. Odd sense of humour these guys.

Edenvale is still flying a chipmunk.

Barrie had a slow start with twin otter, tiger moth and Cornell. Harvard's in formation picked things up. Kids liked the gryphon high speed, low altitude pass.

The good stuff is coming up with f18, extra and snowbirds.

Edit;
Northern stars Pitt specials were good. I didn't realize how fast they were.

F18 was awesome.

Went today. Yesterday was a washout apparently and only three aircraft flew. Today was awesome and everything went ahead as planned except one of the Tutors of the Snowbirds had a malfunction and had to land early.

I enjoyed the Hornet and the F16 demo teams the best. The Italian tricolore aerobatic team were pretty good too. The C17 globemaster was awesome though.
