Track Gearing - GSXR600

Now that I've finally got a dedicated track-day bike (GSXR600) I'm curious if I should change up the gearing. Tracks I mostly ride at are Mosport and Shannonville. Any thoughts to a change (yeah it kinda sucks with Mosport being a faster track than Shanny).

Stock gearing now? For Shannonville you should change it. -1+2 is a good start. Everyone rides a bit different. On my 10R i ended up running some pretty short gearing, -2+3 for TMP and Shannonville.

Yes it's stock right now. My 1000 has gobs of midrange but even it would have benefited some shorter gearing for Shannonville. Only thing I was worried about is that i'm not always going to have time to change sprockets so I may end up running the same gearing at both tracks. Don't want to go short for Shannonville and then have it too short for Mosport. One's going to suffer but I'm looking for the best in-between gearing I suppose.

If you can find an extra sprocket carrier that makes gearing changes faster. Changing a front sprocket shouldn't take very long either.

Depending how fast you are, you won't pull top gear at Mosport with stock gearing..even if you're very fast. So you could afford to add one or two in the back. That would help at Shannonville to some degree, but it still won't be short enough for Shannonville. You might be better off trying to find a good ratio for the majority of Shannonville knowing you'll only be getting to top of 4th at Shannonville. I'd personally try 2 up in the back and that should be enough for Mosport and will help somewhat at Shannonville.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll start with adding a couple out back and go from there.

Also, I searched and it looks like I should stay with DOT rubber since I'm not using warmers. I've only used Pilot Power 2ct's on the track and they're good but if I could get a bit more grip I'd be pleased. I was going to try the Diablo Rosso Corsa's (I've used the Supercorsa's on the street and liked them). Opinions or recommend something different?

I ran Pirelli SC 2 scrubs with no warmers at Mosport and TMP. At Mosport they were good after about a lap and a half, at TMP they never really felt that great but they still worked. You should be fine at the bigger tracks where you can get the heat into them , but I'd def look into finding a used set of warmers so you can get the most out of the tire and your track time. I was running the Bridgestone bt-016 before switching to the Pirellis and I'll never use street rubber on the track again. They were that much better in terms of grip and feel.
