Tow A Bike Service

Hey guys,

My review of Tow A Bike:

I needed to have my bike towed today.
Tow A Bike sent a guy over with a truck and I was charged $130. It was for less than 6 kms. Total time it took the guy to arrive was ~65 minutes.
This seems like a lot of money for the distance I needed the tow for. I was told this is the standard rate for towing within GTA and they charge extra per km for going outside the gta.

Pros:
-Friendly guy did all the work I didn't even have to touch the bike
-Hydraulic System on the truck lifts the bike and secures it
Cons:
-Price
-Time it took?

I am curious what others are paying for towing service in the gta? and what u guys recommend for next time just in case.

Cheers

65 minutes is a pretty good response time considering that we have the worst traffic in north america. As for the price, have you seen the cost of fuel? How much do you think the truck cost? The hydraulic lift? Insurance? And the guy has to eat as well...

well it was my first time so I don't know what is typical response time hence the question mark on that Con.

This is what I was looking for. Seems there are much better options out there:

$130 for 6kms seems like a lot - yes. But it is more than fair.

That truck has get from origin to you then do its job and return back to its home base at some point for the driver to sleep - so a lot more gas is being used besides the 6km trip.

Towing isn't cheap, you have to account for Gas, Maintenance, Wear/tear , tires + equipment & depreciation of the equipment.

That truck that picked you up - geared the way it was prob was north of 40-50k new. And would only last about 300k - 500k. before it is junk. And prob. travels around empty 1/2 its life.

If you had a vulture pick up your bike - they would prob charge you $150 - $250 to get it home plus they do a very good job of damaging the bike.

So for $130 and it being moved properly and by a person that contributes to our motorcycling community it is fair.

GET CAA - cannot beat having that peace of mind at that price.

Where was the pick up/drop off points ?

^ Wilson/Ridge to Sheppard/Weston

I pay $110 a year and I get 4 tows, up to 200km each.

CAA?

Thanks guys, I will look into CAA and other options from that thread as $130/tow is way too much for my blood. I got a quote from Motolimo and they charge $100 for the same thing and they have similar hydraulic systems on trucks. Brian from this forum charges half of motolimo but not sure what equipment he has.
Finally renting a U-Haul trailer is another option if someone can drop by but that's not always possible so CAA it is I think.

+1 for CAA, so you don't have to worry, CAA membership/per year is usually less than the price of just 1 tow.

Got CAA costed me 120$ for premium membership 4 tows cage or bike 200km each tow. Also if you run out of gas they will fill your tank up twice with premium membership in a year. And took them about 20min to show up when I had my caged towed. Also didn't have to ride with them to shop . they just dropped it off for me so I didn't waste time going to shop then finding a ride back .
