Toronto Traffic ... Feeling congested?

What's the point to any of this?
There are too many people and hundreds of thousands if not another million to be added.
Have you seen all of the condos in the downtown area?
We have no space to expand roads. We have no space to expand subway. We have no space or money to build new and proper subways.
So they will go back to the failed ideas of the 70's, squeeze drivers out of their cars.
Get ready for toll roads as this is what they will claim to be part of the solution.
Get ready for property tax hikes.

Most of this can be solved with a simple sticker.
If you live in the 416 then you do not pay a fee but if you live in the 905 (non 416) then you pay a yearly fee or entrance fee to enter the 416. It's not hard to see all the highways jammed with cars coming south daily in the a.m. then heading north in the p.m.

^^ Except that we already pay for the roads whether we live in GTA or Not, through the fuel tax surcharge.

**** Toronto and its traffic, i ****ing HATE coming anywhere near south of Steeles and unfortunatelly have to when travelling for work.

Not a good idea at all. I HAVE to go through the GTA one way or another to go from Petawawa to Simcoe unless I go through Algonquin park, south down 11 and 400 and then snake my way through all the side roads and small towns to avoid the GTA. Turns a 6 hour trip in to an 8 hour one. My normal route is south through Tweed to the 401 west bound to QEW and is the quickest route for me. Considering the highways are public and it's the only reasonable route for people passing through. To avoid traffic I already pay a toll on the 407. Needing to pay a toll just to get home to my family on the only possible route through?

If I've learned anything about the city since moving here, they don't like to do anything correctly. Where most people try to live their lives pursuing optimal outcomes, the average Torontonian intentionally engages in suboptimal behaviour. This rule operates at a micro and a macro level. The preferred outcome for the denizens is to give up their own optimal outcome whenever it is possible to deny someone else an optimal outcome. It's unique to Toronto. For this reason I'm pessimistic there is ever going to be a solution. The city will eventually choke on itself. It's the reason rational people get ****** at having to pay more for something that will probably not have a solution. Even if they attempted to implement the best solution, it wouldn't work out because of this behaviour.

I'm speaking in aggregate so don't get your knickers in a knot if this is not you. I've also noticed that motorcyclists rarely engage in this behaviour, which is partly why I love being a part of this community. We riders are sort of special this way.

They keep blasting about this $6 Billion annual cost of gridlock. Using 3% 30yr swap rates, that in perpetuity is worth $200 Billion. So do the best they can with a $200 Billion solution and it pays for itself. Voila. No one has to pay anyone extra for anything. But it won't happen because well... I already explained that.

For myself, my goal is to long-term position myself outside of the BS. For now all I can do is optimize my shituation.

There is no fee for the 400 series but there should be a fee entering via the DVP and from the Gardiner Lakeshore.

Doing nothing will get nothing done.

If the property tax rates in Toronto were similar to the surrounding cities there would be plenty of money for subways. Sounds like you are asking the folks that pay double the property tax rate to pay even more tax to subsidize the low rates of Toronto.

Offer tax breaks for businesses to allow employees to work from home. Honestly a large percentage of people can easily work from home. Some companies just need motivation...

Incentives for car pooling.
