Hey guys

I need to get the stem bore on a billter upper triple clamp enlarged to an exact diameter to fit onto a differnt front end.

Doesnt have to be close to the subway but are there any shops left in town?

It certainly is not on the subway nor in the core but I've used "The Machine Shop" at 1001 Denison St., Markham, ON L3R 2Z6 ( Phone: 905-475-5188 ) to have some precision machining performed on my triple clamp. The guy was responsive, customer oriented, quick and reasonably priced for one-ofs/custom work.

Spoke to Z1 today and was quoted $50 for the work pending their review of the hardware. I have the original triple which Im replacing with the billet so literally all they would have to do is line them up by the fork clamps which would line up the stem bore and simply come down with a bit. Should I shop around?

$50 is basically 30 mins of work which seems pretty reasonable for setting up the clamps and tools, measuring and then boring. It'd cost a lot more if you took it to some place that did a $25 rush job leaving you with a useless bottom triple.

If its a standard size cutter thats a bit much if its a boring tool thats a deal. I'm at sheppard and McCowan if you want to pm me the details.

That is not a very precise way of doing it. If it was me I would center the stem bore with my indicator and then bite it with a boring tool. $50 is a good price. You are just wasting your time shopping around.

$50 seems about the minimum you'd pay at a machine shop for any service.

There's one on Hwy 7, between Bathurst and Keele, I think it's called Eagle Machining. There's got to be a couple of these old skool places still around in the industrial parts of the city.

BTW, the fork tube clamps are not always lined up parallel with the stem tube; look at some chopper kits with radical rake, they're waaaay offset.

$50 is to walk in and say "hello" with most shops. Go for it

Zaid at Z1 is very experienced and will do it right.

I will be at Z1 on Saturday to get a better idea. Those familiar with the SV front clip swap will know that by using the 04/05 GSXR triple with enalarged stem bore on a 06/07 front end will allow you to retain the stock steering lock. In my case I gota deal on a robust yet ugly billet clamp that needs some attention with respect to the engraved logos. I thought about filling them up with something like JB weld for lack of a better option.

I went with your recommendation and couldn't be any happier. Bill was friendly and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

Lol, I love it when people tell machinists, "all you have to do is".
