Hey GTAM,

Haven't been on in ages sold my bike unfortunately mainly due to student fees but I need important information and you guys are the most reliable Toronto based forum I know of.

I need to get from Richmond Hill to Yonge and Adelaide tomorrow morning before 10.

I dont have much experience driving downtown at that hour so im just wondering

a) Fastest way would be DVP to Gardiner to yonge to adelaide or DVP to richmond to yonge and down to adelaide?
b) Depending on which route how long do you guys estimate it would take?

Its an important meeting so I want to plan ahead. Either way im prepared to leave roughly around 7am.

thanks for the help, ride safe!

Park in finch station by 8:45 am and take the subway & get off @ queen, you will have enough time for a small coffee before your meeting. Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice.

I forgot to mention I would rather drive, Im not familiar with the subway system and I fear it would just stress me out more.

And being stuck in morning traffic jam, then looking for parking in downtown while being short on time will stress you out less???

Cant agree more on the subway. The toronto subway is easy. The yellow line does a big u and mostly will be the only train you will have to take.

Yes driving would be less of a stress as opposed to walking around, call me crazy but I feel most comfortable in my car.

I do not want to get into a debate, I would just like some quick advice as per my questions in the OP.

thank you.

I commute from North York to the core and basically anything after 730 is going be stressful traffic wise, but that's subjective. With patience for sure, but there's always bottlenecks unless you're really crafty with the route (or rather be moving than stopped even with minimal time gain). I'd almost suggest Don mills (has motorcycle, bus lane) then the bayview extention. Richmond is your best bet but its still a gong show.

TTC from Finch. go south to either queen or king then walk the rest of the way. you dont need to transfer or take buses or street cars. its simple and straight forward

TTC for morning rush hour. There are no reliable or easy way by car (or even bike, unless you are prepared to ruthlessly lanesplit for a few KMs if in a pinch) in the morning or in the PM Rush hour.

I do all my customer meetings downtown via Subway, scheduling the meetings nicely along the U line when possible...

Why don't you explain the subway system to him?

I love subways, really really hate busses

This is what I was looking for. thank you

And its not that I dont know how to use the subway system. I have only used it a handful of times and on top of the of stress of the meeting I dont want to be worried about standing on a crowded bus/subway and then walking around to figure out where I need to go.

Yup. Map that commute on google maps, multiply suggested travel time by about three to be sure, and you're all set.

I know it's not the advice you want to follow, but I can't think of anything more stress-less than taking the subway. Try it for at least one day and compare it vs driving downtown. I guarantee you'll prefer public transit in this scenario.

How old are you?

When I lived at Yonge & Eg the fastest way downtown was to take Mt Pleasant. South of Bloor, Mt Pleasant becomes Jarvis which you can take all the way down to adelaide (or Richmond if you have to go west from there). Unfortunately, once you get downtown all roads are congested.

This would be what I would suggest

Basically Take Bayview south to Lawrence (exit right after the bridge by the french school) careful, always radar cop in there, bridge turns into a 50. then make a left on Mt. Pleasant, all the way down to Adelaide

Traffic spots are bayview just after the 401 before Yorkmills, depending the time bayview can be slow.
