Unfortunately, I was downtown during the anti-Uber protest, and saw it very closely. It was hours of disruption!

Here is a video taken today, during the protest, of a "friendly" Toronto taxi driver confronting someone he thinks is an Uber driver...

"...follow the law, he should have stopped."

After some lunatic attacks the car, grabs the door handle and starts pounding on the window? I'm outta there too.

Maybe he thinks he is a cop in uniform? lol

It was crazy, they blocked (momentarily) University Ave. a few times (around Queen's Park), by slowing down their cars, and also blocked Bay St. / Queen St.

Who the eff are you to talk about following the law? You are assaulting the guy and he has absolutely no legal duty to stop for you in the first place! And who said youre supposed to enforce the law? are you a frekin cop?!!

What an fu$$#g maniac! Glad this happened! This will show what these cabbies are really about.

I know ill be calling uber to drive me around than a maniac like this!!

Professional drivers - lol. Blocking traffic and going slow, very professional.

Bike cop struck by taxi driver was the icing on the cake. Boy did the taxi drivers ever show us!

I wonder if he's going to get charged with something.

Retail Stores had to and continue to adapt because of new technologies and many people have lost their jobs because of it, for some reason cabies think they are the only ones affected by technology.

If they are not competitive to Uber prices then they need to adjust their prices.
If they can't because of the fees they pay then the fees need to be adjusted accordingly
If the fees can not be adjusted because of certain legislation then the legislation needs to change

All part of a free market economy. It sucks for them because they are losing their revenue during the adjustment period but maybe the entire cab industry should have realized what was coming and react accordingly instead of letting the customers pay up the roof for these ridiculous fairs.

Amen.

Good riddance to Cabbies. I've taken plenty of trips in a cab and none of them have compared to the my experience with Uber.

After the cabbies "protest" I'll go out of my way to not take a cab and grab an Uber.

Can't be put better
Cabs are just being whiners, not coming up with a solution but rather cry and blame others.
This video just made them look even worse on top of the meaningless protest.

I do not agree with their tactics but they are frustrated to no end with the lack of support by local government. Yes I am in the industry. Everyone should read this article on how Uber is able to collect the fee for your ride and take the money and pay no taxes to Canada. They basically just suck the money out of our pockets and take it offshore.

They keep saying that Uber drivers are not safe... I know for a fact that in order to be an Uber you must go through a Vehicle inspection. I have seen that inspection and it is very comprehensive, drivers must fix whatever is wrong with the car as a result of the inspection no buts about it.

I am not or have ever applied to Uber (just clarifying)

In defense of the cabbies, the whole cab system is set up in regulated and set up in such a way that it fails against disruptive unregulated competition, as what Uber is.

The rates are municipally set, they have to 'rent' those cab medallions from investors that see them only as income and don't really care about the cab driver, and they have to pay for all the upkeep of their cars and pay a ton of money in commercial insurance. It's the cab drivers that are suffering at the hands of uber, and they really have no tangible way to fight back.

Just like Ebay or Amazon also suck the money out of the country, the big difference is that the drivers are Canadian and in turn they use that money in our economy.
So unless all cabies buy all their stuff locally they should be able to understand how this works

I do agree that the government is slow to react and are not supporting them, not by sanctioning Uber or making the population pay the ridiculous fairs again but by ensuring Cabs are not over regulated and are able to make a living.

However remember that we the customer also had no way to fight back at getting raped for a cab fair, now we do and unfortunately the table turned on the cab drivers.

Not only cabbies are idiots. Had a single driver in a SUV, behind me in the HOV lane on Don Mills, talking on his cell and honking behind me cause I wouldn't enter and block an intersection in bumper to bumper traffic this morning. He even took a pic of my back. lol When I stopped at the next intersection he again layed on the horn. Eventually he go into the next lane and started ranting off. Told him off and went along my merry way.

Haha my office is right where theyre protesting and it started to raining here. Thatll make them move lol
