To any cops on here... is this legal?

Would I/can I get pulled over for not having a rear fender on my bobber? I like the look of the bike, but I don't like the look of tickets...

I ain't a cop.. but..

You've got potentially 3 equipment violation charges coming at you. I don't see rear view mirrors on it in your avatar photo, but it's too small to really tell.

You need fenders on front AND rear to be compliant.

Other equipment

Windshield wiper, mirror

66. (1) Every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall be equipped with,

(a) a device for cleaning rain, snow and other moisture from the windshield so constructed as to be controlled or operated by the driver;

(b) a mirror or mirrors securely attached to the vehicle and placed in such a position as to afford the driver a clearly reflected view of the roadway in the rear, or of any vehicle approaching from the rear. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 66 (1).

Exception

(2) Clause (1) (b) applies to all motorcycles except those manufactured in or imported into Canada before the 1st day of January, 1971. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 66 (2).

Mudguards

(3) Every motor vehicle and every trailer shall be equipped with mudguards or fenders or other device adequate to reduce effectively the wheel spray or splash of water from the roadway to the rear thereof, unless adequate protection is afforded by the body of the motor vehicle or trailer or by a trailer drawn by the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 66 (3).

*EDIT* and where's your turn signals?? .. and straight, ear-bleed loud headers? that bobber's starting to look like a rolling heat-score.. definitely fashion over function.

If you dont have a turn signal switch then you dont need turn signals. Really with bikes like this unless you give a cop a reason to pull you over or you get a cop that likes anal... you'll be left alone. But yep no fender can be an issue. Ape height (measured from seat btw) and the exhaust. Just dont be a dick with the loud pipes, signal with your arms and don't pull any stupid moves and you should be ok.

Unless you're going to let him say "This chick on the interweb said I'd be OK as long as long as I'm not a dick" this is bad advice.

If the roads aren't wet are mudguards required?

I'd make real sure that there is no way that the seat could tip back, and there was nothing hanging back there that could get caught up in the tire - ouch.

Has anybody been pulled over for having a side mount plate or is it mostly just another eff you ticket when they nab you for something else?

I do not represent any type of authority to give you a clear answer on this, but if it helps, I have personally witnessed a cop-on-a-bike carefully watch a cruiser leave the Tim's I was at and he had ridonkulous loud pipes and a sideways-mounted license plate on the left-hand side of his rear wheel.
The police officer thoroughly examined the bike as it went by and he did not turn around to get the guy on the cruiser (cop was waiting at red light, guy on cruiser was leaving parking lot on green light turning left in front of cop). I am 99% sure the cop saw the way the license plate was mounted as well as many other "don'ts" on the guy's bike.

The guy on the cruiser's saving grace? Once he saw the cop, he feathered the heck out of his throttle to keep it as quiet as possible. It was past 10pm.

Cops witness illegal activity all shift long. They choose which ones to act upon. The fact that one doesn't choose to act one time is no indication that the situation is okay with cops or legal. For example, most cops won't necessarily ticket someone going 10 kph over the limit but that doesn't mean its okay with cops or legal to drive at that speed and it doesn't prevent one that doesn't like the colour of your bike from giving you a ticket for 10 over.

+1

You could ride around like that for a year without a ticket, maybe only a week.
Had an undertail on my first ss for 3-4 years before I sold it without an issue. Wasnt even brought up during traffic stops. Im pretty sure the new owner had at least one in the first couple of weeks.

The moral of my story was "attract as little attention to yourself as possible". I kind of forgot to write that.
