TMP still for sale? will they open next year?

It seems that no one outside of the parties directly involved are explaining why it was under power of sale momentarily and then removed. But ... Given past history of the place, plus the uncertainty from not knowing what the deal was with that power-of-sale situation, I won't pay in advance for anything that happens there.

Locally I hear that certain billionaires who do not legally reside "in Canada", but their homes and addresses happen to be on land that isn't Canada, but is surrounded by Canada, are buying up racing facilities.
Outside of Canada, but surrounded by Canada, they own a dirt oval racing facility, and a multitude of other businesses as well. Being int he racing scene, rumour has it that they have been buying up racing facilities....like Cayuga Speedway, and possibly TMP, or at least a huge cash infusion (partnership?)

Of course this is all speculation garnered from local coffee shop talk....No idea if there's any truth to it, but since this board's been so dead, it might start some convo,LOL

+1.

Having these types of "pre sales" looks great on paper when pitching to potential buyers.

"Look, we have X amount of people commited to coming here next year, this track would be a great investment."

yes, I would definitely wait until the "Under new management/ownership" sign is hanging from the gate or posted on the website before taking part in any pre-sale

Well whatever happens, I hope I get to make use of the credit I have for 2 trackdays!

Doesn't sound like racers 5 will be there for 2012, from what i have read.

thats probably a bad sign about the future of tmp.

I have seen track day dates for 2012, more info to come soon.
TMP is not going away.

And a company that I used to work for continued to take prepayments, for computer systems, until the day that the doors closed. I'm cautious by nature, as a result.

You can't really repurpose a racetrack like you can a computer store or bike shop.

Well, you can ... The old Westwood track in BC ended up with condos built on it. Race City Speedway in Calgary is finishing operations because the city needs it for a water treatment plant (or something of that sort). But, both of those were too close to civilization and Race City was built on land leased from the city, so there was always an end in sight. There's zero demand to build condos on the land that TMP sits on. Only thing you could re-purpose it for are an airport (which is how it was originally built - and where's the demand?) or farmland. Farmland ain't gonna happen because there's plenty of land nearby that wouldn't have any demolition costs associated with it.

The two likely outcomes are (1) the track continues operation, whether under current management or otherwise, or (2) the track sits around doing nothing whatsoever, because whichever bank owns the land doesn't know what to do with it and won't spend the money to operate it.

For an example of (2), I need only point to VIR, which sat around disused for about thirty years before being revived.

Land is always land. It's an investment, not too far from a major city. It'll be good for something, someday, and if it can be picked up for outstanding debts or whatever, then all the better.

I hope that the track will be open.... but i have a bad feeling that it wont be.

living in Niagara, tmp was only a 45min drive, now im looking at a 3hr drive.

unless i can find something closer in the States...
