Keep the front end on the ground, the oil pump is placed such that keeping the front up starves the engine for oil. So I have been told, and bought one from just such a event happening (Unless you have spare engines sitting around.)

thanks good to know.......

If it doesn't already have them, you want might to grab an upgraded steering damper and rear shock while you still can. Every time I pass one of these in the classifieds I think about getting one, just haven't done it yet.

I think there is a fix for the problem to prevent it, Check on the TL1000 forums. I bought an engine for the one I got and then sold it before ever getting it together so did not do a lot of research

Nothing to add but congrats. Loved the TLR and was going to get one. Picked up an RC51 instead =)

nice, what kind of $ did that set you back. It has to be one of the nicest sounding bikes I have come across. There is one I have seen for sale for some time. price seems reasonable, tempts me to put up an offer

Congrats, I've been drooling TLR's for years. If you don't mind me asking who are you insured with? When I got quotes from Jevco in 09 they wanted almost as much as the bike was selling for lol.

Nice choice..... how's the gas on that monster, i just got 220km on a tank of fuel (crapy)..

I have no idea... I've never drained a full tank in one ride and my trip meter is broken lol.=( No time to ride, can't ride to work ugh.

Hmm let me jog my memory, nice bike (kinda rare), enough torque to pull down a house, sounds amazing with aftermarket pipes oh and a pig on fuel...

Oh and most important, try to do the rear suspension mod...the stock setup is kinda Mehh.

I've had 2 TL1000S, 1 TL1000R, 1 V-Strom, and now an SV1000S, and will possibly add another V-Strom as a second bike again.

The TLR is a great bike. As mentioned above they like to drink gas more than most bikes. Great midrange and top end. Excellent handling characteristics. At the very least replace the oil in the stock damper with fresh stuff and bleed it well. You will be amazed at the green vaseline like substance and air that will come out of it originally.

The rear suspension works fine when new and no problem when old. The damping will of course be worse with age and never wonderful when new. AND the stock unit weighs a metric ton, so there is no downside to replacing it.

The EFI works well on this bike but an ATRE (if not already equipped) is a great thing to have. The only REAL downside to this model is how much engine heat finds it's way to your inner thighs on a hot day. That massive frame which comes up into your seat transfers heat like a frying pan so if your want to procreate, do it before your jewels are charbroiled.

Thanks.... If I had one bad thing to say about the bike is the inner thighs/leg comment you said.... I cant even touch the frame.... Does 220km a tank sound about right ?

If memory serves, between 200 and 220 is correct. That's what my SV does comfortably now as well. You're going to love the TLR.
