AKA my original motorcycle jacket. It's served me well for 19 seasons, 1 crash (more of a tip over), through sun and rain, been soaked through at least three times. It's a black Bristol jacket, and still gets favourable comments on how it looks. Last year I had Bristol reline it as the lining was gone (they still make the jacket, so had the patterns and were half the price of anyone local). The question now is to get a new zipper in, or buy something new. It's very comfortable (well broken in?), and has good pockets for keys and stuff, but I was looking at it and the leather is starting to look aged over the top of the back, and something new might offer better protection. And 19 seasons is a good run, as my wife says, it doesn't owe me anything.

If you have an attachment to to jacket, just hang it up in your garage or frame it and put it in your man cave, and get a new one. Bet it's got a lot of memories.

Use the leather to make a new saddle cover....

Leather does break down with age and may not even look it, but it won't be as effective in a crash. So, it's up to you.

I'll side with your wife on this one. Time to retire that jacket it has served you well.

hahaa I have jacket around the same age. I am still wearing it daily.

thinking of replacing it but I love the jacket. And its been with me for last decade.

That said I will never get rid of it. I dream of someday our late80s early 90s machine will eventually become something like a triton nowadays. With a matching jacket like that would be cool as hell...

Zipper replacement is pretty easy to do. Bristol makes a good product, but the jacket is probably lacking in protection.

Replace the zipper and get a newer jacket. Deglaze the jacket, restain it black and then add a conditioner. You'll have the best of both worlds.
