Time for another rant...

So this morning I was riding down Wellingston St. down in Toronto and stopped at a red light to make a left at Blue Jays Way so I can head south to Front St.

A minute passes an all the sudden I have a cabby pull right up beside me in my own lane to me left (I am starting to see a lot more stupidity like this in the past couple of weeks) I tried getting his attention but was completely oblivious to me and my Ducati Red bike and my bright LED integrated tail lights. I tried to kick his back tail fender to get his attention but he wasn't close enough and just figured to let it go after we both made the left and just shook my head at him after I made the pass.

5-mins later, I get to my work and about to make a right on this one way street in to the area where we park our bikes and this woman in her Honda Civic does the SAME ****ING THING!!! now I'm completely flabbergasted and outraged. I motion to her and start yelling WTF!! she motions back and reading her lips leaving her window rolled up saying "I can't hear you and drives off".

This stupidity of people pulling up right beside be has happened already 4 times in 3 weeks, and the two previous times my wife who rides passenger turns around and starts hand gesturing and giving fingers which makes my day because I'm too concentrated to do it myself. Next time I'm getting off my bike to give these ****ers an ear full.

Is it just me, was a new law passed in Ontario which allows this? I swear to God, I think I'm going to start this Mad Max rage and even keep a baseball bat attached to my bike somewhere.

This doesn't happen to me that often ... maybe 'cuz I ride a bigger bike then you ... one with saddle bags, etc.

If the colour of my bike doesn't catch their attention, than my full termi. exhaust system should.

Hmmm maybe you need to consider changing your lane positioning so you are blocking ? Usually when Im stopped I'm in one of the tire track lines so there is no room for a car to pull up right beside me in my own lane.

If done in safety I can't be a hypocrite about it. I filter, they filter, meh. Happens to me the odd time. Don't worry, it isn't Mad Max out there.

I often encourage it in the right lane for cars needing to turn right at the intersection. More cars than not are too timmid to approach so I wave them past.

Sorry I can't back ya on this one bud. Just block more to protect your lane if you're not comfy.

theres your problem..

Yeah I know, judging distance in anger didnt factor in

I was on the far left lane in the blocking position.

I'm not against letting cars make their right hand turns and from time to time wave them through and even move up for them to get by, but this was in the far left lane where you have to wait for a light.

I'd hate to say it, but that's driving/riding in the city so get used to it. You could try using blocking position, and pro-actively use your horn. Just a couple beeps to let them know you're there vs. leaning on the horn after the fact cuz you're ******.

I've been riding in Toronto for 7yrs and this is the first time I've seen this. I would've used my horn but it's not working (which means I have to look at it when I get home.

Time to install a Stebel :D

Try standing in the center of the left turn lane, blocking position is not written in stone and not always effective in every situation.

Its funny how ppl take what is written in the "book" as gospel.
I was just telling another rider yesterday I don't always follow those rules and break them whenever I feel it is unsafe

Making a left downtown, i'm in the anti blocking position.

Safest and most visible.

It's not like I was in the the centre lane where being in the centre was ideal but in a good position to be in the proper blocking position so no cars would be in my lane and visible to the drivers in the centre lane. plus sometimes when you can't flat foot the bike it helps when the grooves in the track help you flat foot on the centre track and balance you more easily.

Was actually thinking about that a couple of weeks back :) I think I just might install dual hella's and be done with it - they were super loud in the car can't wait to see what they will be like on the bike.

Happens to me all the time. This is the new normal, traffic downtown is maddening and after wasting 30 minutes in travelling 10 blocks, people just don't care about the rules anymore.

No, it is not. Not yet!
