It came undone. What if he just let it dangle and eventually fall off onto the track. He did the right thing by throwing it clear of the track where a Marshall could go pick it up.

It was lap 1, no others riders were on the section of track he threw it onto. It looks like it even landed in the lane between the two parts of track.
Really? It's not much more than roost ffs!
