This small motorcycle helped win WW2

In honour of VE Day -

My uncle went over on D Day as a mechanic to keep the equipment running once it was on shore. He said the light bikes were more popular in the early going because if a rider had to ditch it to avoid being shot he could pull it out himself when the way was clear. The Indians, HDs and Triumphs were more popular later when dodging bullets was less common. He spoke mostly of the Famous James versions.

There's still some good running examples on YouTube. Did the job. Can't imagine riding into machine gun fire like that. Heroes all.
 
Royal Enfield? Isn't that the Brit motorcycle company that went bankrupt until an Indian company bought them? The germans had cool bikes too.
