High end brands need to maintain the image of being exclusive, in demand and a luxury. Discount sales give the impression that the brand/store needs to attract more customers and cheapens their image. And in a lot of cases (ex Apple) they have no reason to discount their products because they really are in such high demand and people flock to them.
