Some bikes have a large arm on one leg of the centre stand, and that will tilt the bike a way off to the right, before the wheels stabalize it. I use a plastic thing I got from Haugens one summer, and I use it all the time, regardless of weather. Habits are hard to forget. Mine also has a string on it that I wrap around the bars so I won't forget to pick it up.

You need one of these (available from my website).
At one point I had maybe a dozen plastic parking disks, because Honda and Yamaha used to give them out for nothing at the national races. Somehow I'm down to just two of the Honda ones, at this point, but I've always got them with me when I ride.
Old asphalt isn't an issue. It's the new stuff that isn't hard enough to support a kickstand, in general.

The parking lot at my work is fairly old, so I thought it wouldn't matter. Apparently it was hot enough to sink my bike down to the foot bar on the kickstand. If not for that it would have fallen over.

The lot I park in is old and its the first time I have broken through. At my old work we had a new lot and the most I ever did was leave a mark/dimple.
