The wait is over! New bike is finally here!

You have to have misunderstood... I think we're in line here. They demand premium because it supposedly burns cleaner and better etc (don't you listen to the commercials?). I'm no expert but it makes sense, assuming it actually is better.

No. The requirement for premium is not because it burns cleaner and better. Higher octane is required due to higher compression engines knocking on lower octane (possibly other small reasons, but all mechanical). My link above will explain it.

There is almost as much hillbilly misinformation regarding octane as there is for engine oil and additives.

Well time to find a better job or go back to school (to get a better job) !! Then you can afford the bike and car at your disposal.

First of all...op...I think you should read up some google articles. This CBR 250 is being sold in developing countries as well....I am almost certain you do NOT get 91 octane there.....+ roads there are not as smooth as ours....just fill in 89 octane, save the 100 bucks by the end of the season, go buy some gear for 75 bucks and then get a 12 pack for me ( you know....for this idea)...

LoL thanks for the tip Sid! I'm just reading my manual for the bike and on page 28.....'recommended Pump Octane Number 86 or higher....' and page 108.....max ethanol 10%.....max MTBE 15%...max methanol 5% by volume.....guess that's 100 in my pocket!

From what I understand they state premium is to be used due to certain countries having considerably lower PON at their pumps. We don't have this issue, and most developed countries don't either...if I'm wrong someone please correct me but that's my understanding.

you'll be lucky if you get fuel that hasn't been watered down in those countries

Well, you'll be surprised but it happens here too. Odd case but it can happen. There was this one gas station many years back which watered down their gas with some alcohol. Well, it went unnoticed until brand new cars started breaking down for no apparent reason. They did an investigation and found out that the gas was problem; therefore they busted the gas station. Imagine all the old cars or at least the once that have a few clicks, poor people had to pay out of their own pocket to fix/replace them.

Pretty much. It only needs regular. You are wasting your money if you put premium in, it won't do anything better. It's designed to take regular.
And no one bother arguing with me because I owned 2 of these things and READ the manual.

Lesson for the OP is to read manual first before believing anything or anyone on GTAM, especially the posters with a questionable reputation.

I find it hard to believe that a gas station would water down their gas with Ethanol. It costs about $9 per litre so you would have to charge more to recoup your costs. Even Methanol is about $3 per litre, in 4 litre jugs. Obviously it's cheaper by the barrel, but less than $1.25/l?
