Go back to 1960 in the USA and the Nixon Kennedy debate

About 70 million people tuned in to watch the Kennedy/Nixon debates. When they turned on their television sets, they saw a tired Richard Nixon and a tanned, fit John Kennedy. Nixon had refused makeup for the cameras, wore an ill-fitting shirt, and hadn’t gained back his natural weight after a serious knee injury and two weeks in the hospital. Kennedy, on the other hand, had been campaigning in southern California and appeared on camera with a healthy tan.

People that saw the debate on TV leaned towards Kennedy. Those that listened on the radio leaned towards Nixon.

Pierre Elliot Trudeau / Robert Stanfield

Trudeau looking like and acting like a cool playboy and Stanfield caught off guard snacking on a banana and caricatured as an ape by the press.

If a person that hadn't seen a photograph in their life saw pictures of two individuals and was asked which was the more intelligent would they select Paul Bernardo over Stephen Hawking?

Regarding Justin's daddy, PET, Wiki says

Despite his personal motto, "Reason before passion",[4] Trudeau's personality and policy decisions aroused polarizing reactions throughout Canada during his time in office. While critics accused him of arrogance, of economic mismanagement, and of unduly centralizing Canadian decision-making to the detriment of the culture of Quebec and the economy of the Prairies,[5] admirers praised what they considered to be the force of his intellect[6] and his political acumen that maintained national unity over the Quebec sovereignty movement. Trudeau suppressed the 1970 Quebec terrorist crisis by controversially invoking the War Measures Act, the third and last time in Canadian history that the act was brought into force. (Justin has only inherited his father's faults)

Not that I feel that PET could have changed the tide of me-me attitudes so prevalent today but the growth of ego seems to have started around his time. His
exaggerated attention to rights over duty and responsibility didn't help.

Higher education has a problem. Call it Marie Antoinette syndrome, let them eat cake. Pass a law, sprinkle pixie dust and leave. The people that have to live with the law don't understand the complexities of the legislation. If you doubt that, think about how many people don't know how to wear a mask.

Advertizing is big bucks and media is right there with any click bait they can find under a rock. With a few exceptions that have risen to promenance, journalists are "Chicken Littles" feeding the frenzy.

Technical reviews are good. Brand X power tool has 15% more power than brand Y. However social influencers (Media of various sorts) are telling us what our bodies should look like, what we should wear or eat to look cool.

Is there any hope of reversing the visual image / knee jerk reactions or are we doomed.
