What the narrow end of a segment of my tent pole looks like:

What it should look like:

The segment should be 20 1/2" long.

Looks to be aluminum.

Is there a way to repair or replace it?

I would think that there are "generic" replacement poles available from Amazon or other camping equipment places. Try MEC or the other hiking place in Oakville you can see off of the QEW.

You just need to find the right length and possibly its flexibility.

Never looked for it but I would image they are available .

that place in Oakville is apparently closed...they went out of business...I recently tried looking them up and that's what I found on Google reviews...

aha.
That's why I couldn't find them.

There are tent pole splints that can be used as a "field repair" fix. It's an outer tube that fits over both ends of the broken tent pole and then you tape up the ends of the splint so it doesn't slide around. Super cheap, they're like $10 at any camping store. Make sure to buy one that's larger than the diameter of your pole.

Here's one from MEC:

The problem with this is that it's a very temporary solution, you'll have to tape it up every single time you put the tent up.

A more permanent fix is to replace the pole. If the tent pole is pre-curved to fit the shape of the tent, then you'll have to find the exact make and model of the tent and buy a replacement pole for that specific model. A generic pole that's the same length may be hard to bend to conform to the shape of your tent. Worse case is that you'll end up putting too much tension on the fabric of the tent and ripping that as well.

If it's just a straight pole then you're good to go.

You can repair with a wooden dowel (or maybe copper pipe, it depends on diameter and what you have around. Clean up the inside of the pole, dry fit and then glue. Dowel should go at least a few inches into aluminum. Obviously string through pole complicates repair but just adds another step.

FWIW, I despise those poles. Heavy, lots of space required and prone to fail ime. Buying a bigger tent with better poles is crazy expensive though so they serve a purpose.

IIRC you're in Burl-Oak.

Tent pole repair kit. $3.49. Repair splint $8.99. New poles for > $20

Cut off the raggedy part then slide the thinner swaged part up inside the broken end about 1/2 inch. Get a benzomatic aluminum solder rod fron CTC and solder-weld it using a propane torch. Or pin eith a populist rivet, self tap screw or nut and bolt.

Then I'd move that piece to the end ot the line, should take less stress there.

It's aluminum.

Cut it off clean and make an outer sleeve. Or try to find a piece of tube that fits inside and aluminum braze. What are the dimensions I.D.s and O.D.s of the tube and the swaged part.

If you go with an outer coupling does it have to go through a sleeve in the tent wall or roof? If yes, will it fit?

Assuming you can't or do not want to remove the rope/bungy that goes down the middle. I would take a pipe cutter and cut off the rough one each end. Make sure to debur the inner piece! Slide the smaller piece inside the outer and JBweld the crap out of it. The insertion into the next rod will be less but my guess is it will still work if not abused.

Only rub might be the outer part looks like it may be cracked.... or that could just be the finish.

If you can remove the rope measure, and see if you can find new piece of aluminum that will work...

The bungee in the middle holds the thing mostly together , so parts don’t get lost . I’d go shopping for another pole section from Amazon or the like .
