Telephony question (Bell wiring)

If I cut out the connectors currently inside my NID and replaced them, is there potential for Bell to give me grief later on? Whoever wired it was lazy, the connectors get full of water and I suspect it's messing with my DSL. It's a hassle to get them to show up, it would take 5 minutes to fix (but it would be obvious that it wasn't them that fixed it) and I'm not even clear on whether or not the problem is their responsibility in the first place (would rather not get slapped with the $100 fee if it isn't).

Seriously? Just fix it up, who gives a damn. How could they ever prove you messed with it? Not to mention they won't look at the box unless you call them anyway.

Also if the problem is in the NID its absolutely their responsibility. Free to you.

Alright. Next question - something seems fishy with the box in general to me. There are no terminal blocks inside it, no circuit protectors, nothing. Just the Bell line, one set of crimp connectors, and my line. Don't have much experience with them, but that doesn't seem right... am I wrong?

So try to fix it, you tell them that's the way you found it hence why they are probably here fixing it.

What makes you suspect it's in the DMARC? What's your Signal and SNR and how far away are you from the CO by way of copper?

Whether or not it's the cause of the problem I'm having (intermittent disconnect), the connections were poorly done - I can see with my own eyeballs the water inside the crimp connectors.

I will share my line stats for laughs anyway (from ISP side):

Sync Rate: d8512.0/u1085.0 kbps
RCO: d83.0/u88.0%
Noise Margin: d10.9/u10.8 dB
Power: d19.3/u12.1 dB
Attenuation: d19.8/u20.3 dB (Approx. Distance: 1.43~2.23km)

Stats aren't too bad but there's room for improvement especially given how close you are to the CO. You can always take the modem right to the DMARC and see if the stats improve. As mentioned before the DMARC is Bell's responsibility and I would pressure them into replacing the whole box if it's exposed to the elements.

Those stats are with the modem plugged into the demarc jack in the basement - I use VoIP for landline service so I prefer it that way anyway
