TD online quotes and current policy.

Hey guys,

So I have a policy with TD Meloche where my premium is $1151 a year. I decided to check on their online quotes to see what I would qualify for and it states that I I am eligible for a premium of $690 per year. That is a $461 difference per year!!

Okay, so I gave the call centre a call to inquire about this quote. I had a rude rep (he insulted me, cut me off mid sentence, kept asking me to repeat myself after cutting me off etc, refused to transfer me to a supervisor and hung up) who stated that they do not honour online quotes to current policy holders and that I have to stick with the current premium. If I were to buy a DIFFERENT bike and sign up then I could get insured on that price but not on this one then I can cancel this bike but not if it is the same make and model.

So after he hung up on me, I called back because I was furious and ready to cancel all of my policies with them as well as my S.O's. but the rep on the phone was a little more experienced and re did the quote for me and he was also confused as to why there was a difference in the two quotes. He actually found that I had entered the year that I got my licence in incorrectly and that my licence level was wrong.

Anyways, a few minutes later I re-did the quote with all the CORRECT information and again the $690 came up. My license was correct with both level and year and it is on the same bike that I currently ride.

Does anyone know why this would be? Is it true that since it is not my renewal date that they will not re-adjust the premium? I mean, if I suddenly called them and said "Hey Mr. TD I no longer have an alarm system on my bike and I park it outside" they would re-adjust my premium to reflect that. Why would they not do the same now that I am considered a safer rider with an extra year of experience?

Don't have an answer to your question but a question to your situation.

This also somewhat happened to me when i was playing with their online quote. When you enter your license and the date/age you received that license.. is that for the current license specifically (m2/m) or since you received your m1?

I get the same issue, it's called loss leader pricing, In restaurant ....

Low to get you on, and then lock you in.

Call them and ask for it cheaper, if they say no, try again, compare around and tell them you want the lower rate,

In the end, it's better to pay a few hundred more a year and build a relationship and a history with the company.

Sent from my my mobile using a strange app for damaged people

Bweixz - For Meloche, it asks what my licence level is and when did I receive it. I put M2 and the date I received my M1.

I checked with State Farm and will be calling them on Monday. If my total insurance is cheaper (home-auto-bike) as well as my S.O we will be switching and at this point it is more because of the tool I spoke with on the phone than the money.

Update: I left one of those online/email feedback forms regarding my phone call and someone else called me back. The issue was that my age was not updated in their system and that my age online was updated. They then fixed my age and my premiums went down by about $400. They will review the call with the first guy as he should not have hung up on me and should have answered my questions.

On another note, my car insurance went up $16 haha

Read the fine print on the e-quote..In the event of discrepancies between this quote (including information on the coverage) and the quote established by our office, the office quote and/or policy shall govern.

Every time I have done the online quote with TD they have been pretty much exact to the dollar. Except for my last 1 which my online quote was a whole 25 bucks a year more than I actually got.

Usually they don't adhere to their online quotes so you are lucky. What I did was call a bunch of StateFarm agents and basically said well this is what he can do what can you do? this is what she said, what can you do? $300 was the lowest they'd go with throwing in $20/month insurance + monthly payments, instead of lump sum.

Although they have that as fine print, my quote was still honoured. In fact my premium is lower than my quote. I was aware of the fine print, but I wanted to know why there was a discrepancy. If I had left it up to the fine print and not followed up with them, I would be paying about $400 more a year in premiums.

Also, I am assuming that their online quote vs office quote policy will also take into consideration errors on their part, ie having my age incorrect in their system. So even though their office gave a higher rate than the online quote, it was due to an error on their part.

tl;dr it doesn't hurt to follow up anyways
