Hey everyone,

I wanted to get an introductory message out there and hopefully nix any theories that I'm here to spy on someone, or gather intel, or investigate an incident. That's definitely not why I'm here.

I am an officer that rides a police MC out of Barrie on a regular basis. I love to ride, and I'm one of the lucky ones that gets to combine work and my hobby. I interact with lots of motorcyclists during the summer months (and the odd crazy one in the winter), and I'm always looking for a better way to do that. I'm not sure if this forum will fit the bill but I'm willing to give it a try.

Recently I've had a couple run-ins with some young guys on sport bikes that have left me with a pile of traffic complaints and paperwork because of the way they chose to deal with things. It's my hope that with a little more communication, I can have a positive effect on this, and maybe one day it will save a life.

Thanks for the chance to get that out there. See you on the forum, and on the highway.

Welcome to the forums! I can only speak for myself, but I'm glad you've joined! I agree that communication is critical and I believe positive effects can be achieved. As a new rider myself, I came here for a lot of information. Having police officers contribute to the community, as a member of the community can definitely have benefit.

But as you know, you can only help those who want help. :)

See you on the forums and road! Stay safe.

Cool, welcome to the forums.

I do have a quick question. If I see someone driving/riding like a moron is there a specific number I call? I have called 911 (not knowing if that was the right place) to report two cars who were racing through red lights and going around traffic (in the opposite lanes) during rush hour. I wasn't sure if my complaint was just dropped because I called the wrong place, etc. (I was in my car on bluetooth, so it was happening right there in front of me).

Also on a semi-related note, is RoadWatch the place to report vehicles with serious and obvious maintenance issues? (e.g. black smoke fuming out of their exhaust)

You should've named yourself CHiP or something of reference.. lol I didn't know we had motorcycle cops in this part of the world. Welcome to the forum!

How strict are you on fender eliminator kits, integrated tail lights and flush mount indicators?

Welcome aboard! Won't hear any complaints from me.. Every profession has its good guys and its bad guys, but the fact that you took initiative to open up some lines of communication with the community earns some brownie points :)

Welcome! Kudos for the full disclosure.

Welcome to the forum. You're very fortunate to be able to combine your love for riding with your work. I'm green with envy. Are all OPP bikes still HDs or have they moved on to BMWs and Concours 14s?

There was a police bike at the Bike Show (I don't remember what division, it might have been Halton?) with a stickered up GSXR, but I don't know if that's a field machine or not lol

Welcome! So will we see you in Port Dover?
There were a couple of motor cops there last year, they were letting people pose with the bikes for pics.
Fun stuff that!

Don't you have anything else to do with your life than to go around with the vigilanty attitude of telling on everyone? You were that kid in school weren't you?

That is a track dedicated bike, a police department sponsored track bike with a police officer that ride it. He also helps with instruction at Pro6 days, nice guy

Didn't they have one on display at one of the shows sitting with a new mv 800?

Welcome Bike Cop. Great initiative on your part to help open the lines of communication. I try when I can to help with legal questions but it has been decades since I served..lol In fact I trained a young guy in the Military Police who used to ride MC once he got on with the OPP last i heard he was a sergeant in Aurora Detachment.

Good to get "current info"

Yes XENO many forces have bike coppers. There is one sergeant with Durham Regional who can be spotted many an early morning, (before 6 am) riding along Hwy 7A just outside of Port Perry.

Hey, if you want people running reds and smashing into you or your friends that's on you, but I don't. People who street race in broad daylight and run reds should be caught and punished.

My friend was hit by a red light runner and was hospitalized in a coma. Maybe someday you'll get the pleasure of knowing someone close to you go through that too.

And vehicles with black smoke, smoking up the entire road is a hazard and obviously polluting the environment much more than any other car. Maybe you've never encountered one of these before, but I've seen a couple: http://i.cbc.ca/1.1869157.1380204905!/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/16x9_620/image.jpg
You can't see anything in front of you and bystanders have to breathe that ****** in.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Lots of questions there, I'll try my best:

- traffic complaints can be dealt with through 911 call takers if they are ongoing, if not Roadwatch is a good place to go. Not all jurisdictions have Roadwatch however. If you're not concerned about an immediate problem, call the local police division/station/detachment, and make your complaint through them directly.

- fender eliminator kits are problematic in most cases for a couple of reasons. They typically move the licence plate to a spot where it isn't as easily seen, they often necessitate moving your turn signals to somewhere else and therefore make them less visible, and they may remove any sort of 'mudguard' effect that it would have had.

- flush-mount turn signals just have to meet the requirements of the HTA, so they have to be visible when in operation. Personally, I'm not that picky on this one so long as they work.
