Tank bags and touch screens.

I'm curious if anyone has discovered a tank bag whose map pocket works with devices using capacitive touch screens? Seems like an iPad could make for a handy GPS unit if the touchscreen was able to work properly through the material of the map pocket.

If no one makes a tank bag with this sort of material on the map pocket, maybe it would be possible to do this yourself by buying a piece of some appropriate material and replacing the map pocket cover? What sort of material would you need?

Most touchscreens looks for some sort of heat signature if I understand correctly. I have been successful at using my old Bold 9700's trackpad through a ziplock (i was on a boat, didn't want it to get wet) but I would think anything thicker will simply not work as intended.
Although the trackpad on the 9700/9780 may be different than actual touchscreens such as iphones and most androids, and if that's the case then my comment is not really helpful lol.

A friend of mine uses a icon urban tank bag with his iphone... Doesent work well when wearing gloves

there's 2 main types of touchscreens used in consumer devices. most newer smartphones (and tablets with glass over the screens) are capacitive. Older phones and some car stereo headunits are resistive.

that being said, you may be able to use a capacitive touchscreen thru a very thin layer of plastic (just like a screen protector)

Yep.. thin enough plastic and a capacitive touchscreen would still work. I know it doesn't on my cortech bag.

The blackberry trackpad is a different thing entirely. It works more like a computer mouse except your finger is the table.

My iphone works fine through a cheapo tankbag, screen protector, and gloves, as long as the contact patch of the glove is leather.

Even if your gloves aren't leather, get some conductive thread and sew a couple stitches in whatever finger you use. Did that with a pair of icon perf leather gloves and it works way better than gloves alone.

I'd love to see how you did this sometime. That's a fekkin brilliant idea. My girlfriend has the Icon tank bag and this would be great when she gets her next cell phone.

Wouldn't heat be an issue? I have a JR tank bag and on a hot sunny day my MP3 player tanked due to the heat of it sitting in the sun under the plastic map pocket.
