Great post. My RTI instructor told us about this stretch of road. He goes every year.

Highly overated. There are tons of roads in the Smokies with a lot less traffic.Great place to hook up with buds tho.

I cant see why any vehicle that must use up the on coming lane out of necessity would be allowed on a road. It makes no sense.

Great post BTW

I'd love to see the day where trucks are not allowed on that road.

they are not allowed

They are allowed in TN which is where most of the road is. Even though they aren't allowed on the NC side that hasn't stopped all of them as they have still been on the road since it became illegal

The problem is a lot of the GPS units take the trucks in there considering it's a faster route through the mountains. Once they actually get on the stretch of road, it's impossible to turn back around.

All you have to do is be there once. It's very clear after your first trip thru.Switchbacks and tractor trailers do not mix.Especially when it is GPS mapped.

I know, its just that what he said was exactly what the narrator said in the video. Just pointing it out - no biggie.

I've experienced a truck on that very stretch of road and its scary to say the least, especially when you come around a blind corner, only to see a truck taking up the whole road and you have no where to go! Thank goodness, the killboy photographers and the other riders/ drivers go out of their way to warn you.
