My 1997 XX came with a pimpbike undertail. (looks like this, but pic isnt mine http://i1037.photobucket.com/albums/...5/SAM_0161.jpg)

I purchased the SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock system since I don't want to have mounting brackets permanently on my bike

I have 3 of the 4 mounting points installed on the bike (passenger peg, grab handle and subframe) but the 4th mounting point is a horizontal bracket which is designed to attach to the stock license plate holder in the middle and then to the mounting hardware on the other side of the bike.

The undertail has removed my fender and the bracket would block the middle of my license plate which is a big no no.

Will the system be secure enough with 3 / 4 mounting points used or should I find a stock undertail and put it on the bike

I had a modified tail on my KLR, and used three mounting points plus the rear bracket across the back. I used a pair of pipe clamps to suspend it from the shortened mud flap.

The rear bracket was needed for two reasons, the bags, when loaded want to collapse to the point of no support, so the bracket spaced them properly, but I still experienced shimmy of the bags and bracket when in motion, but nothing that a preride inspection couldn't handle.

The pipe clamps showed wear which meant that part of the load was suspended by the mud guard on the rear.

That being said, I tend to load the bags on the heavy side, and on the KLR I wasn't adverse to the odd wheelie or two, or gravel road/logging road.

I suggest using all the attachment points you can, or run with very little weight in the bags and have a friend spot for you to see what is going on back there.

recommended weight on the luggage brackets is 27.5 pounds per side including luggage. they seem very sturdy with only 3 of the 4 points attached

i think ill be ok as long as i dont overload them
