One of the most outrageous production motorcycles in history

One horsepower per kilogram: it's the kind of power-to-weight ratio you only see in the world's most exclusive multi-million dollar hypercars. But at 231 hp and 152 kg (335 lb), the Ducati Superleggera V4 absolutely obliterates that figure, making 1.54 hp/kg.

This, mind you, is with a fancy racing kit and its titanium Akrapovic exhaust fitted. Out of the box (although the racing kit does come in the box), you'll have to make do with a paltry 221 fully road-legal horsepower and a positively corpulent 159 kg (351 lb). Thumbing through the regulations for World Superbike production-based racing, it appears the rules require WSBK bikes to weigh at least 168 kg (370 lb). So there's a genuine chance this one might not stick to the ground, and could float you away over the treetops.

Superleggera is Italian for "Reallylight," and Ducati has used this designation before for special-edition superbikes that are tuned to the eyeballs and shaved to the last gram for weight savings. This new V4 would instantly become the #1 machine kids would pin up on their bedroom walls, if touchscreens hadn't been invented and kids gave a single, solitary toss about motorcycles any more.

Also limited to 500 examples, and when you buy one you get to attend a track day experience where you get to ride the V4r WSBK bike AND the DesmoGP20 MotoGP bike!

And most of them will disappear into someone's collection, and will hardly ever be ridden.

The V4R is the WSBK homologation special ... one of the other homologation requirements is that the base bike can't cost more than 40k euros. The Superleggera is actually too light, and the engine is over the displacement limit, and it costs too much ... Pretty darn awesome but it's sure out of my league!

Amazing machine.

Start a Motorcycle Investment Trust and get a bunch of people to invest in one. Put it away for a few years then sell to some rich oil Sheik for big profit!!

Awesome machine for sure.Movie stars like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise lined up to pay $93k for the Desmoseidici rr back in 2004.They can be had for a lot less than that now.Modern superbikes are never a great investment. And like most manufacturers, they lie about hp numbers. The RR was supposed to be a 200hp machine.None of them ever did more than 150 on a dyno.
Watch a retired heart surgeon roll one off his trailer back in 05 at Mosport and after a warmup lap,was timing him at 1:30.Pretty impressive.

Well we all know if you are rich & famous for anything you automatically have the God given talent to ride/drive hyper sport vehicles to their full potential.

That's why you never hear of movie stars, rock stars, or professional sports figures crashing these high tech conveyances.

I know it's a lottery win kind of bike. But $5,000 or $6,000 service bills would get tiresome.

as per dealer 120 k plus 16 grand for the MotoGP experience. Not worth it for me. If they priced it under 100 I would have been all the way in

I was also joking with my buddy that they would prob set the rev limiter on the Desmo20 GP to like 800rpm for your test ride...

How many of these will ever make it past 100 miles?

I'm sure a few of them will be bought by rich track day enthusiasts. They are out there. Not all rich folk are slow ... Those folks will rent a track for themselves and their buddies, and bring this out for special occasions. You won't be seeing one at a general track day for the masses. Same riders would have another, cheaper Ducati for those ... a V4R, for example!
