Sunday 14th Ride! TODAY!

Hey all, just got my first vehicle. A kawasaki 250zzr. Im new to all the road rules, and still a little shook up by all the crazy drivers out there. I get real paranoid out there, and im always on the lookout for something coming to kill me. I obey the speed limits at all times, while traffic seems to blaze by. Ive been riding for a week or so, and it has been pretty fun, but its not as relaxing as i thought it would be. Always on the lookout!!

Anyway I'd like to get together and go for a little ride north of the city, this afternoon around 2-3pm or later. Preferably experienced riders who put safety first. I just have my m1, so im not familiar with highway speeds. I dont mind riding 200k, as long as we can break 5-10mins at 100k.

Anyone would be appreciated to come join me, just as long as we ride safe speeds (speedlimits give or take 10km/h ;) )

If I may give you a piece of advice, it's don't do this. Maybe for your M2 exit you can do this, but in day-to-day riding, this is not a good idea; the pace of traffic much safer. If you're uncomfortable doing a speed, take another road.

Ive heard this a few times now, and im still abit confused. If I go 20 over the speed limit, cant I get a major ticket ? I just got insurance, I cant afford it to get any more expensive. Im assuming if a buncha traffic blazing by a cop, their going to get the guy on the sports bike with dual yoshimura pipes making a buncha noise.

There's a conviction among many members on this forum that motorcyclists are targeted by cops when it comes to speeding (it could be true), but 20 over is not really "blazing". It's your licence, so it's up to you how fast you would like to go. However, going 20km/h slower than traffic could put you in the same kind of danger as doing 20km/h faster than traffic, simply because people won't be expecting you to be doing that speed. I have yet to be pulled over myself, either in a car or on a bike, for doing the same speed as everyone else around me.

my advice would be if people are going 20 over, you go 15 over.

You will still get passed but they won't blaze by you making it unsafe, and the cop is less likely to pull you over if other drivers are clearly passing you.

I would also strongly urge the original poster to avoid group rides until they are comfortable going with the flow of traffic under all circumstances. As someone else noted, if you are not comfortable with whatever speed the flow of traffic is going, take another road.
