Suggestions on insurance options

My policy is up for renewal. Currently with Intact, and my renewal is around $1800-2000 (don't remember, the paperwork is at home). Checked with AllState, StateFarm, and TD. AllState won't issue a policy without a car, StateFarm is the same price as Intact without a car. TD is cheap at $1200, but made the mistake of mentioning the front suspension has been changed to R6 (straight swap) which is a no go for them. Even if I switch it back to stock, they still won't insure me because of that.

Any other reasonably priced options I'm forgetting?

'06 Yamaha FZ6
29 years old
bike license since '06 with continuous insurance since then
clean record, no tickets, accidents, or claims

Is the FZ6 considered a sport tourer? Try Riders Plus.
Wouldn't hurt to call Cornerstone insurance brokers either.

I was with state farm, but after increasing rates the past few years, I jumped ship to allstate and haven't looked back. I don't think it's correct that they won't give you a policy without a car, just that you won't get the preferred rate if you have just a motorcycle. PM if you want the name of a good broker.

Companies aren't allowed by law to not offer you one service without the other. They can however give you preferred rates for packages.

Yup, it's a sport tourer which is what really hurts about these rates. Checked Rider's plus, pretty sure they deal through Intact as my rate was about the same. I'm with Cornerstone right now, ever since they bought Jerry Kaspard's book, but they only deal with Intact for bike insurance which is where I'm at now.

The Allstate broker I spoke with, wouldn't give me a quote for just the bike. I'll shoot you a PM for your broker.

Rider's plus has 2 companies. One for under 25 which is the Jevco/Intact. The other I don't remember, but it wasnt anything I've heard of before.

I have my car insured with Allstate and when I went to get my Ninja 300 insured, they refused, I was told they do not insure sport bikes, only cruisers.

Call Mantha out of Ottawa, they got me the best price on a policy with Aviva.

You have to be at least 30 years old, with a full M. They'll insure any bike. My policy is with them.

Mantha is a good option as well. They insured my friends VStrom when he had a less than stellar record.

I'm 30 and have been driving since 16 and never had an accident/claim/ticket. But I only have the M2.

I notice on their website it mentions they insure touring, cruising, and standard bikes. Though it doesn't specificalyl mention that they don't insure sport bikes: http://www.allstate.ca/Allstate/otherprod/motorcycle.aspx

I just emailed my allstate agent to get clarification. The ninja 300 is classified as "sport touring" by kawasaki but allstate might not differentiate between that and regular sport bikes. Allstate is considerably cheaper for my car than the quote I got from state farm, so assuming they're cheaper for bikes too it would be great if they would insure my bike.

Get your M and they will. PM me if you want the name of a good Allstate agent. Good luck.

Just spent some time on the phone with my allstate agent and finally got this cleared up. Their policy is that they don't insure sport bikes at all, but the agency manager can make an exception for people who meet several conditions: You have to be at least 30, you have to have a good driving record, and you have to have homeowner's insurance with them. Since I rent, I don't qualify. He never mentioned anything about licence class.

He did state that they now differentiate between sport and sport touring bikes so I could probably get my ninja 300 insured with them if I wanted but I'm about to trade it in for a 600 so there's no point.

So I think RidersPlus has some kind of side deal with intact because when I was looking to renew they did the same thing and gave me a quote through intact even though TD was cheaper. Same as you OP.

Not true they offered me standalone insurance on a sport bike at a decent price, just not quite good enough to switch.
