Stuck gum blamed for depression

Here's another first world problem:

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2011/09/22/18723046.html

"Over a period of five minutes the gum falls apart into little pieces and sticks to the dentures," Pawlow said in her statement of claim.

She then alleges in the statement of claim, filed at a cost of $200, that she had to "dig out" the pieces of chewing gum from her dentures, which she described as a "disgusting" procedure.

"As a result, the plaintiff has suffered depression for approximately 10 minutes," Pawlow said in the claim.

Pawlow is seeking $100,000 in general damages as well as interest and court costs.

That's up there with McDonald's coffee being "too hot." I should make up my own. E.g., I opened up my packet of Pocky and discovered that more than half of the tasty, crunchy treats were broken in half. It caused me great dismay. I think I should sue Glico for my anguish. LOL!

also right up there is the lady who sued or tried to for falling in the water fountain in the mall while texting

Just wow. That is all.

10 minutes of depression? Doesn't she mean "I was angry for 10 minutes while I was cleaning my dentures?"
Why is she chewing gum with dentures anyways?

These types of cases are ridiculous and IF the plaintiff should ever win, I think the only compensation she should ever get is a refund for the 5 packs of gum, and a pack of Polident.

Good news on the McDonald's one is that is was eventually reversed. However, nowhere near as funny so not often commented on.

This case is right up there.

The McDonald's one wasn't nearly as frivolous. They had been cited several times for the temperature of their coffee. Yes the woman shouldn't have had it between her legs, but she had to have vaginal reconstructive surgery because the coffee was that hot. That's a safety issue.

Yes, but her son should not have put the car in gear. Why wasn't he sued?
Correction:
Ok just read up on it further. Grandson was driving, and car was not in motion. She put the coffee between her legs and lost the whole styrofoam cup when she tried to take the lid off. Was assigned 20% of the blame. After the hospitals and law firms got their cash, there probably wasn't much left.

If you want to know about the McDonalds hot coffee watch this. VERY informative, especially concerning the BS changes to tort law and caps on damages.... Someday it may be you seeking compensation for wrongdoing.

They should just push the old hag off a cliff.

I'm kidding...

A movie tells the real story? They could have just posted it on the internet and I would believe it.

+1. I don't remember how, but somehow somewhere I saw a picture of the resulting scarring on the upper part of that woman's legs. Yes, we all know coffee is hot. But it shouldn't be molten ****ing lava hot.

I guess we should bubble wrap the whole world so that 1% of the retarded population wouldn't hurt themselves

what the hell does all that have in common with some chick getting gum in her dentures ?

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing the word 'stuck'.

Dude, that's not what I'm saying at all. A quick google search gives detailed info on the actual case. On the surface of course it sounds retarded, but there's a bit more to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebeck_v._McDonald's_Restaurants

Maybe you should suffer third degree burns to your genitalia, and come back and say that.

Well, the truth of the matter is where ppl try to blame others for their mistake. Coffee is obviously hot, wouldn't u want to be careful with the hot cup? The person who spilled the coffee is to be blamed, not the person who brewed the coffee. I rest my case

The evidence is that tea or coffee served at a temperature of 65 C will cause a deep thickness burn if it is in contact with the skin for just two seconds. Thus, if McDonald’s were going to avoid the risk of injury by a deep thickness burn they would have had to have served tea and coffee at between 55 C and 60 C

Wow, great. Now when I get my tea at 60 C I know who to blame.
Remember my statement about bubble wrap?
