I haven't had a motorcycle for more than 20 years and have toyed with the idea of getting back onto two wheels for years.
This past year my wife has expressed interest in scooters, ebikes etc, so I took the opportunity to take on a new hobby with her. After shopping around we purchased a "previously enjoyed" Vespa (150LX) and a new Grom from Motoretta to monkey about with for the next couple of seasons.
We have no previous experience with Motoretta, and no purchases at other shops, so this post is not meant to compare their service to other stores, just to share our experience. (don't shoot me)
Purchase: The sales team took the time to answer all of my questions fully, and to educate us on some challenges that we'd likely face if we went through with the sale (insurance, rider training, gear...).
Delivery: They were pleased to provide me with a delivery window +/- 30 minutes, and hit the time on the mark. 2 bikes delivered to Yonge / Sheppard from their shop for $50. I was surprised that they outsourced the delivery to a bike transport company, but was very pleased with the service and they hit the time, on the mark, on a weekend.
Condition: The new bike was mint (of course). The used Vespa was in better shape than initially promised. Waxed, spotless and runs perfectly. I'm not certain whether they did the service onsite, but again, we are thrilled with the condition of the bike, and the price paid.
Advice: Shopping for insurance was a royal pain in the butt. Quotes from the majors for 2 "new" riders on 125cc/150cc bikes were bruuuuutal. After 4 days of fuss, quotes ranged from 3100/year per rider down to 1160 per year per rider (plus / minus $100). I called the Motoretta again, asking for advice. They put me in touch with their favourite broker, who insured us within 4 hours, and less than 1300 TOTAL for 2 new riders on these two bikes. THANK YOU.
Follow-up Service: Now that we have insurance, and the sales ink is dry we wouldnt expect them to go an extra mile. Their sales manager is awaiting our insurance information and has promised to FedEx our ownership / plates to get us onto the road faster.
Conclusion: After reading some scathing reviews of their service / sales history I was concerned initially, but our experience couldnt have been better. I would recommend their store on the sales end. We are going to try to service the bikes there when it's time, and we will follow up with another review.
Disclaimer: I didn't even know the store existed until we went shopping. We dont know anyone there personally and have zero history with the company. This is an unbiased account of my personal experience there. I hope you enjoy the same great service that we did; they're worth a shot!
Feel free to PM me if you have questions or want clarification / more details.
Mike.
